Saudi Arabia Oil Facilities Ablaze After Drone Strikes
BBC ^ | 9/14/2019 | BBC Online

Posted on 09/14/2019 7:02:21 AM PDT by LRoggy

(Moderator, if I can't excerpt the BBC, please note)

Drone attacks have set alight two major oil facilities run by the state-owned company Aramco in Saudi Arabia, state media say.

Footage showed a huge blaze at Abqaiq, site of Aramco's largest oil processing plant, while a second drone attack started fires in the Khurais oilfield.

The fires are now under control at both facilities, state media said.

A spokesman for the Iran-aligned Houthi group in Yemen said it had deployed 10 drones in the attacks.

The military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, told al-Masirah TV, which is owned by the Houthi movement and is based in Beirut, that further attacks could be expected in the future.

He said Saturday's attack was one of the biggest operations the Houthi forces had undertaken inside Saudi Arabia and was carried out in "co-operation with the honourable people inside the kingdom".

That IPO might never happen anyhow. Vastly overvalued in the early iterations.

If the Saudis didn't think it was vastly overvalued, they wouldn't have put it up for sale in the first place.

Arabs are NOT known for exemplary honesty in business. But here they over-estimated how many suckers are in the world.

Houthi drones, bought from the Iranians and flown by the CIA.

Someone, somewhere is pulling out their hair saying, “What the hell do we have to do to get a war started here.”

It’s not technically a refinery, but it is a huge processing facility. It removes hydrogen sulfide and makes it safer to ship the crude oil.

“The solution to the problem is to kill Houthi’s,”

Are the Saudi’s the good guys?

I didn't think it's a "refinery". The Saudis ship very little to no refined fuel. Thanks for the clarification.

Bert.

You spelled it wrong. It is “Abqaiq”
Type that in to google earth or google maps and you will find a refinery in the town.

Nice information. Thanks.

Makes sense, because I've read in several places that there are very few actual refineries in the ME, that major petro exporting OPEC members have to import gasoline and refined products from other countries.

Good thing America is now energy independent. Oh wait, the dim/socialists say we shouldn’t be with their insane green policies.

"Iran attacked the American, Israeli and Saudi one world order..."

"EuroTwit" seems to be an unusually appropriate handle. How're things in Tehran lately?

Well, gas prices were going down. At least around here. $1.99 gallon last week. Now $2.19. Something had to be done...

Of course they are. Let us take more loans to finance another war...

And the IPO is hardly the biggest concern if a few drones can knock out a refinery that can handle 7% of ALL the world’s production.

Good point. Let's hope that our more violently inclined domestic Greenies don't adopt this tactic.

Saudi Arabia blaze image....

I will file that but I started to put it in my folder for “urban dwellers react to police shooting of drug dealer in hostage situation.”

Really doesn’t go there.

Drone strikes are easy to blame on Iran somehow getting drones to where they're needed and therefore helps make the Israeli case for war against Iran.

Therefore, 1) a few decades ago that place was nearly all foreign workers, not Saudis, so I'd need to see some solid proof it was a drone rather than duct tape and a block of C4 planted just before shift change and 2) if it was a drone strike the drones are as likely from Israel or the US to implement something Bolton cooked up as from Iran.

It’s sort of like the Iran Iraq war and the Nazis vs the Soviets. You want both sides to lose.
