President Donald Trump ousted John Bolton in part due to frustration with his third national security advisers guidance to pair military power with economic pressure against Venezuela, according to current and former administration officials.
One senior administration official said that Trump had grown weary of repeated vows from Bolton that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro would be out of office in short order. A second official said that they had clashed over Boltons efforts to advance planning for military intervention.
That official pointed to the administrations national security strategy, which predated Boltons tenure and called for strong diplomatic engagement to isolate rogue nations in the Western Hemisphere. That has been and remains the policy, the official told McClatchy, although officials across the administration insist that all options are on the table.
Bolton left the White House on Tuesday over several bitter disputes with the president and Cabinet members.
I disagreed with John Bolton on his attitudes on Venezuela I thought he was way out of line, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

The elections have been rigged there for years and the masses have been disarmed.
Just a dumb statement given that elections have been rigged there for multiple election cycles and the people have no access to firearms.
Any conservative should be behind people seeking freedom from left-wing oppression.
Exactly! Venezuela's present existence it its own punishment.
Wanting freedom for people suffering under left-wing regime is the equivalent of sending a child back suffer under a left-wing regime?
Fact is, they voted in comrade Chavez. Once that happened, all that follows was the direct result of that decision.
Too bad.
Hoping it doesn’t happen here.
And, more important, do they have the will to get out?
Third, why should we shed blood for them?
Fourth, a conservative can wish for another to be free of the yoke of govt, but throwing out treasure and blood to another country that got them selves into the mess in the first place is a tall order, we have been doing it for a long time.
I say again, they made their bed.
If they want out, if they want freedom, if they want self determination, they need to be prepared to die fighting for it, or the opposition will prevail.
Every time.
Neither one of them ever saw any problem they didn’t think was best solved by more and bigger guns.
And neither one of them ever considered the long term downsides of their methodology, nor whether it was even vaguely possible to achieve anything positive with their approach.
I do not believe that our troops (trannies aside, that’s why Obama wanted them) would fire on the American citizenry. We need them stateside right now.
Anyone who doesn’t understand that is devoid of basic human intellect.
I am overjoyed that Trump understood he was in some important part elected because he was NOT a war-monger of the sort that typified the likes of Bolton, or, say, John McCain. NOW, the war-mongering has fallen on the Dem Party, and they’re shadow-boxing and rattling their imaginary sabers, which is exactly what I figured was the PRIME reason Trump engaged Bolton in the first place. I knew he would not take Bolton’s advice. And Trump knows any real foray into any kind of military adventurism that EVERY President, Clinton and Obama included, in the last 40 years has found irresistible 2 1/2 years into their first term, would fatally affect his chances at re-election. I hope he does what’s now called the “Kissinger Option”, and hope that Pompeo is no Kissinger. Otherwise, all bets are off.
“” “” Wait, what? Bolton wanted to use military force against Venezuela? How in the world is Venezuela a threat to the United States? “” “”
Current international situation provoked by neocons over last two decades is asking for a second Cuban Missile Crisis this time in Venezuela.
Military means weren’t a solution at the time, much less now.
Bolton fakely poses himself as a protector of Monroe’s Doctrine to earn brownie points with neocon crowd in spite of Trump.
The problem with these dimwits is they only remember half of Monroe’s Doctrine and made it absolete overall by their own actions.
“according to current and former administration officials.”
quintessential fake “news” based on anonymous rumors ... but in this case, it actually sounds believable for a change ...
“100% against military action, not our job to fix.”
President Trump and myself agree ...

You are so right! The Monroe Doctrine has two parts. One part warned the Old World not to interfere in the Americas. And in turn the United States promised not to interfere in the Old World. Our bases pretty much everywhere nullifies the whole thing.
Im not saying that US bases everywhere is necessarily a bad idea. But someone who believes in a US presence everywhere shouldnt go whining about any Monroe Doctrine violation.
What kind of an idiot would want us involved in Venezuela?
Bolton, Bush and Rove.
Slep, Moe and Curly
The difference with the Cuban Missile Crisis is there were serious men in charge of the situation on both sides.
Now there are jingoistic hawkish former dope smoking hippies.
A move like that would kill many birds.
