Pompeo could 'pull a Kissinger' and replace Bolton while remaining secretary of state: Sources

As President Trump begins considering replacements for former national security adviser John Bolton, sources close to the administration say it's possible Trump will make an unusual pick and ask Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to fill the role.

The scenario of Pompeo taking the job while keeping his current one has historical precedent in Henry Kissinger, who served in both positions from 1973 to 1975.

Holding both jobs would "appeal to anyone with a sense of history," said a Republican operative close to Pompeo. "The Henry Kissinger scenario is one that I can imagine. The president has a great deal of trust in him."

So far, I like what Pompeo has done. I liked Bolton a decade ago, but I trust Trump’s instincts better than Bolton now. It was necessary to part ways, I am furious that Bolton is apparently now going to trash Trump.

I’m probably wrong as usual but it does seem to me Pompeo has the almost unique ability to work with Trump. The ability to realize he works FOR Trump from one minute to the next. At least to me, he doesn’t come across as someone who is trying to impose his will on events (“...the Khadafi model...” to Kim!) but carefully couches each word to reflect Trump’s desires fairly precisely. Pompeo also seems to have the almost unique ability in DC to keep his mouth shut when he should. Especially note Tillerson who was advertised to have not only great connections but great wisdom. Right up until Tillerson called Trump a retard when talking to a reporter. How frigging retarded is THAT?

Tl/dr. Pompeo may actually be great at this.

From what I’ve been reading, it sounds like Bolton spent as much or more time trying to block Trumps wishes as trying to implement Trump policies

The stench of Ivanka is high with Bolton.

I like it because it seems that next to nobody who has been polluted by success within the Republican Party can be trusted. Any US Senator or Rep that might be reliable can't risk giving up their seat to another Mitt Romney.

I been promoting this thought. I feared a coup with Romney in the US Senate and the negative impact Bolton was having. It seemed as if Bolton was sabotaging President Trump's negotiation instincts.

Summary...Pompeo's eyes on both Departments is an excellent idea.

What?
More Kissinger policies?

Shoot him now. Thirty or forty thousand rounds from a Bushmaster 30mm just to make sure.

"The stench of Ivanka is high with Bolton."

True. Apparently anyone in President Trump's
administration is at risk of being fired and
replaced except Ivanka and her husband.

I hope that this is Trump’s way of preparing Pompeo for Vice Presidency.

Too many people in Washington consumed with their 'place in history'... what these folks need to focus on is DOING THE DAMN JOB... That said, if anyone could handle both it would be Pompeo... but not a good... Stretched too thin..
