New official data obtained by The Associated Press shows a spike in Jewish settlement construction in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem since President Donald Trump took office in 2017, along with strong evidence of decades of systematic discrimination illustrated by a huge gap in the number of construction permits granted to Jewish and Palestinian residents.
The expansion of Jewish settlements in east Jerusalem, which Israel seized along with the West Bank and Gaza in the 1967 Mideast war, threatens to further complicate one of the thorniest issues in the conflict.
The refusal to grant permits to Palestinian residents has confined them to crowded, poorly served neighborhoods, with around half the population believed to be at risk of having their homes demolished.
The data was acquired and analyzed by the Israeli settlement watchdog Peace Now, which says it only obtained the figures after a two-year battle with the municipality. It says the numbers show that while Palestinians make up more than 60% of the population in east Jerusalem, they have received only 30% of the building permits issued since 1991.
The fate of the city, which is home to holy sites sacred to Jews, Muslims and Christians, is at the heart of the decades-old conflict. The Palestinians want east Jerusalem to be the capital of their future state, while Israel views the entire city as its unified capital. Tensions have soared since Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israels capital in 2017 and moved the U.S. Embassy there, breaking with a longstanding international consensus that the citys fate should be decided in negotiations.

Great news! Am Israel chai!
I’m surprised they stopped just short of parroting the Khazar Canard, which the “progressives” love to trot out as their “proof” that the Jews have no intrinsic, historical right to the land.
I call that the Khazar lie myself. Funny how when that is raised, nobody can find the “true” Jews to give them their land back anyhow and insist that the Arabs get the land (ostensibly), or pile on with the “international city” thing with respect to Jerusalem.
So now Jews living in the Jewish capitol city are settlers (the commie- nazi Code word for illegitimate). Well, theyre settled and they aint moving, so get used to it! Meanwhile, as an American I may settle in Washington DC too. And the author of this article can suck my tsilpipe.
This must be allahs will!
So Israelis are building housing in their own country? Great! Means they probably need the room due to burgeoning families and immigration of Jews from France.
European Jews are genetically related to Samaritans and Arabs. Middle Eastern Jews are even more genetically related.
Besides - ignore the ‘2000 years ago we were owners of this land’ and look at three other items that define why the Israelis own that land
1. by right of purchase - Jews performed aliyah in the 1800s during the rise of nationalism in europe when different people saw they “owned” some land. Jews moved to the Ottoman province and legally bought the land, settled, farmed
2. by right of development - the land before the Jews was fallow and a dustbowl, lightly populated. Jews brought technology and made the desert bloom. To be fair - the “arabs” didn’t develop this because of Islam - Islam expanded under goat herders who destroyed the land and the irrigation networks (just as they did in north africa) because they didn’t know anything about these
3. by right of conquest - the Israelies didn’t start the 1948, 1967 or 1971 wars - the neighbouring lands did and those neighbouring lands LOST.
No need to go into the religious or historical arguments - by these three above arguments the present day Israelites have the right to these lands.
Israel seized Jerusalem in 67, leaving out that the Jews in Jerusalem were expelled by Arabs in the 48 war.
Even Leftist wiki admits It.
“New data shows Israeli settlement surge in east Jerusalem”
Borders are just lines in the dirt, though.
