Donald Trump: U.S. Farmers Are ‘Warriors’ in Trade War with China

President Donald Trump praised farmers on Wednesday for their patience in the ongoing trade fight with China. “They’re warriors. They also know we have to do this on China, we can’t take this on,” Trump said. “Our farmers will be helped.”

The president commented on his plans to help farmers suffering economically from trade tariffs during a briefing on Hurricane Dorian.

Since Trump enacted tariffs on China, the country has sharply curbed imports of agricultural products, including their purchases of large quantities of soybeans.

“They understand that you have to win the war, this is a trade war, trade battle, you can call it anything you want but this should have been done by previous presidents before me,” Trump said.

Trump reassured farmers that the federal government would reimburse their financial losses with China, noting the billions of dollars of tariff funds coming into the Treasury.

He appeared optimistic that China would come to the table for negotiations, despite ongoing trade disputes. He noted that China was experiencing its worst economy in 57 years as a result of the fight.

Get the Ethanol out of my gasoline.

[I’m currently favored to be having 85/87/91 Octane E0 available locally].

Worst economy in 57 years. Must mean that it grew between 1962-1979 before Carter.

It’s funny:

China’s middle-class has exploded, it’s yuge.

Ours is just teetering along.

Who says things are always win-win?

Not me.

I’m guessing the farmers aren’t very happy warriors.

Most of the large trends helping to take down the middle class and America are in place. The same trends that Trump ran against.

We still operate under NAFTA. The chinese are still cheating economically. We still are running up massive deficits and a large national debt. We still have vast amounts of illegal aliens in America killing and harming citizens. And we still import large amounts of immigrants to help to moderate salaries via wage arbitrage.

Chinese per capita GDP (a good proxy for personal income) has gone up 41x in the 41 years since the Communist government gave up on Communism except for the dictatorship part, which was itself more or less the extension of imperial rule that preceded its rise to power by a few decades. And a good chunk of the state entities they kept was aimed at preserving those enterprises as the Party’s piggy bank/slush fund. That growth did not occur because they’re these great geniuses or long-term thinkers. There was just so much growth available from simply adopting technologies invented in the West, especially since China was, in the late 1970’s, emerging from 3 decades Communist-inflicted economic misery after the initial rapine-based good times from slaughtering millions of property owners petered out.

What are the tax dollar figures we are sending in subsidies to these warriors?
As a veteran and a friend to many true warriors, I think using the same word to describe them is disingenuous.
Of course in our world of hyperbole abuse where a hair brush can be *amazing* and a baby in the womb, inconvenient..

My brother is a small corn farmer (app. 300 acres). He has not been receiving these huge chunks of money from US government as some think. Corn prices are the same today as in 2015 & 2016. China has not been buying our corn for years. They didn’t stop buying just recently. THAT is what President Trump is fighting. Farmers aren’t hurting today because of Trump’s policies.

That doesn’t support either side of your argument, and contains a complete misinterpretation of China’s form of government.

China now has mor middle class and rich than it did in the ‘70’s since it adopted the Marxist variant of Communism used by Italy and Germany Pre-WW2. It’s commonly referred to as “Fascism”, where private ownership of industry is permitted (along side State owned or State shared ownership) so long as it benefits the State.

The number of Chinese now in a middle class are large since it’s population is large, but the percentage of middle class is far less than that in the US, which has seen an increase here in the US over the last 2 1/2 years thanks to lower taxes and less regulations.
