Amen...
So, checks and balances is essential in probably every venue in society - including the labor market. My grandfather came to the US as a young immigrant boy, and wound up working in a coal mine as a 12 year-old, developing black lung as a consequence. So, restriction of working age, and recognition of workplace hazards was/is a real thing that company ownership needs to be held fast on.
That said, I have personal friends who bragged about how they exploited union rules when they were working for a US steel company - essentially working only a few hours per shift while pulling union wages.
My point being that the labor movement grew out of a specific need, but protection of business owners and investors is also required and important.
I’m glad we celebrate Labor Day in September and not on May 1 as much of the world does.
Labor Day is out of date. Should be renamed “Shopper’s Day”, “Party Day”, “Stoner’s Day” or something more relevant to Millennials.
Presidents Day - racist as some owned slaves.
Easter - yucky religion
4th of July - America was founded by taking land from Indians
Labor Day - just work. No need for days off.
Halloween - Christians say its evil
Columbus Day - most hated holiday.
Veterans Day - the American military complex has ruined the world
Thanksgiving - terrible that pilgrims tricked the Indians into feeding them
Christmas - Christians say lying to kids is nasty. The rest hate all things Christian.
I honestly think the only safe holiday so far is New Years. However, God only knows which side will end up ruining that too.
Its a nice three day weekend. Would they have rather worked today?
Shut up and leave it alone. Go try to saveColumbus day.
At least we didn’t adapt May Day for our Labor Day.
Still too cold in New England in May.
The atheist Soviet Communists used New Year's Day as a substitute for Christmas.
People who object to holidays like Columbus, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Labor Day should volunteer to work on those days rather than violate their values.
Oh brother. Figures.
At least we didnt adapt May Day for our Labor Day....
Right answer.
Hardly anyone knows or cares about the orgins of Labor Day. To working folks it’s just a much awaited day off. People should devote their passion to more worthy goals.
Great excuse to go camping though !
True, but this will never be changed.
It was still nice to have a paid day off.
I’ve never bashed Labor Day and nobody I know ever has either.......
He is right. I once lived in a neighborhood where these idiotic Bryn Mawr College losers had a May Day party and would get drunk and dance in the street loving all of the virtues of their beloved Communism and associated ‘isms. I would LMAO at these fidiots but this type turned the suburbs of Philadelphia “purple”.
