One major hurricane... The Leftists and global warming folks will need to make as much hay off it as they can.
Sit back with your soft drink and popcorn and get ready to see some highly professional propaganda over the next few weeks.
Sorry for the folks in it’s path. It’s no laughing matter there.
Doesn’t look that bad there.
Link in #20 is a bit more exciting.
I cant believe Florida hasnt required all structures built in stucco, every window have hurricane shutters and a 50 year roof. At least that would minimize SOME damage. In the end, it would save a lot of money.
No, there’s not, and Dorian is about as strong as Camille was now.
Seems to be mellow (but raining) in Miami - https://www.earthcam.com/usa/florida/miami/?cam=miami
220 mph measured at the surface.
#HurricaneDorian has made it to Abaco...

Looks like South Beach.
I didnt enjoy the harassing Russian chicks trying to make you eat in every restaurant.
On Guam all government/military buildings are concrete block construction with the facade higher than the roof. With drains, of course.
News from Marsh Harbour Bahamas from earlier...
Looking at the video and supposedly within miles of the eye, the winds look like something on the order of 50 to 60 mph.
Oops... No more manufacturers homes or mobile homes can be built....
Probably a million or more in Florida at the moment...
She is nuts.
Meanwhile, political leftists on Twitter are actually spamming (in an organized way, with copy-and-paste talking points from multiple accounts) the Dorian feed with hate-Trump nonsense.

A lot of good roof drains are going to be when the island tumps over.
Its not hype if your in the Bahamas. And there are gusts to 220 at the surface. Recon has verified it with SFMR data. And yes-Im a professional meteorologist.
Stucco doesnt help a lot, because it just covers the structure underneath. So if thats not good, its not going to last. Construction requirements have gone up a lot in the last couple of years, and I think any future hurricanes will not do as much damage.
However, just as the average lower income people in the Bahamas have mainly wood houses, many people in Florida either have wooden houses or trailers (the worst of the worst). Theres only so much you can do. So be ready to donate to the Red Cross! They were great in our last hurricane.
The State of Florida had sent the aid and the Red Cross was the best and most organized provider and distributor of it, and also had great volunteers. We had a good governor then and we have a good governor now, so it will get to people who need it.
A smart island.
Used to see images of palm leaves flapping in the wind and didn’t think much of it because having never actually pruned a palm tree or seen one I had no idea that their leaves are freaking huge, 12 feet long with midribs the thickness of a man’s arm emerging from ‘boots’ that easily weigh 20-30 lbs or more in the case of a common queen palm, and while flexible, there is nothing soft about them. It takes a lot of wind to move them , much more force to rip a leaf off.
