One can only use deadly force if in reasonable fear of immediate serious bodily injury. Three kids sitting in a car in a detached garage does not get one there.

If the police have doubts, then so would a jury. Not guilty.

One freeper criticized me, saying it's better to shoot into the dark garage and stay alive. Of course you might kill a family member that way, but that is a small price to pay for personal safety.

"I want answers," Jimmy Harrison said. Here's an answer: your punk brat is dead.

Your honor, the young men started toward me simultaneously and I was overwhelmed with fear...because I knew they were crazy or on some kind of dope making them crazy. Otherwise, they would not be in my garage. And if he just opened fire while they were sitting in the car as the story implies? What then?

Yup. Every time some jerk pumped up on testosterone brags about taking out a thug with his Glock 17, I mention to the moron that behind every one of his 33 rounds, there is a lawyer.

I’m not sure I would buy that story. He didn’t notice that his wife wasn’t in bed?
In the end, I guess it is good enough to be not provable beyond a reasonable doubt.

Of course you might kill a family member that way, but that is a small price to pay for personal safety. Missing a sarcasm tag? That's nuts, unless you despise your family members. There is always retreat if you're worried about personal safety. I'd rather keep my family members alive, thank you.

Some places, not in Texas.
Here if you do anything that could be considered theft or mischief after dark your ass is grass.
And that’s the law.

Agreed.
The homeowner in this story is going to take it on the chin legally. I’d be surprised if he’s not charged with some sort of manslaughter.
Personally, I think someone trespassing and doing drugs in a garage belonging to someone else has no excuse if they get popped. But the law says different.
