Too many talk here about how they would have shot the guy.

I don’t know where these folks are from but in my experience in fights or trouble it is NEVER fair, NO ONE gives you time to prepare and a sucker punch or grab from behind or just straight out firing the gun or stabbing happens in a blink.

It’s not the movies, like I said, where someone says “stick em up!” from 5 feet away while they are not really paying attention, so you can draw quickly and kill them.

This is real life.

For every attack that was repulsed because the person being attacked had a firearm, there are MANY MORE where a person with a firearm was blindsided and the gun was worthless in those cases.

Your experience? Did you live in a rough neighborhood for years. If so, were you the only white person for several miles? Did you practice in a martial arts school for at least a few years? Boxing? Self-defense training with firearms (not simply ranges but with attack scenarios)? Military combat training with the majority of training time spent on infantry drills? Police patrol work with many arrests? Ever been a bouncer for long?

First, do some kind of useful martial art or self-defense training. There are different ways to defend oneself in different situations. Be ready to escalate. Carry pepper spray, if that's legal in your jurisdiction.

* Be aware of your surroundings, especially the people around you. Do you see anyone acting suspiciously at all?

* If you're isolated and in a situation where you might be attacked, don't let any violence-capable stranger approach you without being at least fairly certain that the person won't try to harm you.

* Keep enough distance from yourself and any un-trusted stranger who acts suspiciously and continues to approach. Watch the stranger's hands. Don't backpeddle, but slide the feet to move sideways. Stay rooted. Keep the feet apart.

* Ask the stranger what he or she wants. Move away if necessary. Be ready to defend yourself.

* If a suspicious approach continues, say something like "Stop! Stay back! I don't want any trouble."

* If the advance hastens or otherwise continues after that, do whatever you need to do to defend yourself in that particular circumstance.

Safety is not absolute for anyone in this world. We could be smashed to giblets while sitting in easy chairs in our houses or die during our next drive. We're not going to live forever. Police live with it, and so can anyone who is competent and fit. Get self-defense insurance.

Or don't develop plans or do anything. It's up to you. The more ferals are born illegitimately, improperly reared and allowed to expand into new areas with fear of being stopped, the more they'll eventually surround and close in on the defenseless.

And don’t forget the hands-free body cameras (see Amazon). Those are protection against lies that come from little mobs after incidents.
