Maher is an Irish name; I believe he’s said he was raised Catholic, the reason he decided he was too smart for it and became an atheist.
Maher was Irish Catholic until he was a teenager. He denies he is an atheist, but refers to himself as agnostic. His mother was a Jew who’s family was from Hungary.
He was a drug dealer at Cornell.
