I-Team: Homeless Mainers feel left behind as asylum seekers get housing

PORTLAND (WGME) - Nearly 200 asylum seekers have to be out of an emergency shelter at the Portland Expo by this Thursday as the Red Claws move back in.

While state and city leaders scramble to find them housing, some homeless Mainers say they feel left behind.

The I-Team found more than 18,000 Mainers are on a waiting list for Section 8 and that's just one program to help low-income families get affordable housing.

Many of those people are homeless and hungry and have already been waiting years for their number to be called.

The article goes on to state that the Gov- Janet Mills, A Democrat- has set aside $172,303 to pay the rent for assylum seekers for one year, while Maine's homeless population, which has been waiting for years on a waiting list for housing- are still left out in the cold

She goes on to claim she is 'very concerned' about the homeless problem

Not all of it. The 2nd Congressional District went to Trump (just 1EV though). We say quite a few MAGA hats while there as well. Now, the south end of the state...well, not so much. It’s just totally insane...nothing but transplanted MASSholes, and those like em. Their RAT female governor is a utter moron.
FWIW, we were in Eastport, Maine a couple of weeks ago and there were several lobster fishing boats there all flying Trump flags. When Maine lobster fishermen are proudly flying Trump flags on their boat masts, the RATs could be in trouble.

If they had jobs, or planned to seek work, placing them outside the city would be counter productive. Most, if not all, probably have no transportation.
