Not really. If the Republicans in Texas run crappy campaigns that take their voters for granted, it’s possible for this to happen. There is also a new issue in Texas GOP leadership - the (R) Speaker of the House got caught on tape conspiring to get media to perform massive hit jobs on certain fellow Republican legislature members in order to make them fail of election/re-election in exchange for access to him.

No, but he did win the last large population county that was Red, Tarrant County (Fort Worth).
All major cities are Blue, and have been for over a decade. With most border counties also Blue, it's going to be close.

He didn’t lose by much. I live in a very conservative rural area and was surprised by the number of Be to signs I saw.
