We’ve all heard that nonsense before! Pundits and progressives have been predicting that minority-white Texas would go blue for so long, it’s practically become a running joke. And while O’Rourke came tantalizingly close to knocking off Ted Cruz last fall, that race seemed to have all the hallmarks of a fluke—a Republican senator who even Republicans can’t stomach, running in a strong Democratic midterm cycle against a fresh-faced liberal who eschewed all forms of conventional political wisdom and ran a campaign so novel, so tireless, and so perfectly made for social media that it became a viral sensation. Post-Betomania, most people assumed that Texas Democrats would resume their role as American politics’ saddest underachievers, while Texas Republicans extended their quarter-century run of dominance as their national party’s ideological, financial, and electoral-vote stronghold.

Austin is the left coast of Texas. It is a total embarrassment for the whole state. UT Austin is the most prominent entry point of this virus.

No, that’s exactly the empty-headed, feel good, Sean Hannity soft liberalism that I don’t mean.
I specifically mean legal immigrants. Legal immigrants who can and do vote in large numbers. Legal immigrants from the 3rd world who vote to the left of American natives, regardless of education and income. This was a driving force in transforming California.
Illegal aliens commit election fraud but their impact is very small compared to how legal immigrants votes without any fraud at all.
Demographics is destiny. Leftwing Democrats have known this for decades. The GOP was and is too stupid to figure this out, despite the glaring example of California right in front of them.
Texas in Colorado are some of the dumbest drivers. Slow, and they drive all over the road.

I will guess that a majority of new births in Texas has been Hispanic for several decades?

I would say political “stupidity” is the least of our problems.
Too many Republicans - both leadership and rank and file - agree with large parts of the Democrat political agenda.

I hadn't seen it either until someone brought it up on the radio the other day so I looked it up.
There's another interesting article about the same exit poll that shows the percentage of native-born population by state.
Texans preferred O’Rourke to Cruz — at least, Texans born in Texas did

What would surprise freepers is that many 1914 progressives, like The New Republic’s founder Herbert Croly, were Republicans.
There are still Republicans who are progressives. That movement has been engulfed by the Left. They are not natural allies, but the Left has hijacked the progressive labels.
The Globalist element in the GOP are largely what was once “Progressive”.
They do not believe in small government and in competition in industry and business. They believe in top down control.
I don’t.
It took me a long time to develop a clear political perspective on the 20th Century.
I think big government Republican Teddy Roosevelt got the Progressive ball rolling in 1901.
Except for six years under Calvin Coolidge, Ronald Reagan's first term, and the 1994-96 Newt Gingrich insurrection, that ball has crushed everything in its path for the last 120 years!
Yes, it has been the perfect storm for decades.
I was very clear that the open borders would be the destruction of this country; I was explaining it, not excusing it. I live in a state that is dominated by public-sector unions; it will be a cold day in Hell before they allow “detroitification” (mass abandonment of whole areas). They’d rather fill those dying areas with foreigners just to keep those union members employed; if you have any doubts, look at the opposition to Trump’s very logical, used-in-the-past policy about immigrants and public assistance. The leadership of NJ, NY, CA, and others would rather fill these areas abandoned by a dwindling American population with foreigners on public assistance, with all bills paid by American taxpayers, just to keep the government workforce employed. It is not a need for WORKERS, it is a need for CUSTOMERS - of public education, housing, etc., nothing more.

That may be a regional thing; in my state of NJ private education is too expensive, especially when considering the thousands we pay for “public school tuition” in property taxes (3/4 of our tax bills go to public schools). I believe other states which aren’t dominated by teachers’ unions may offer more options for parents; in the past, NJ certainly did.
That’s what happens as we’ve been invaded by illegals and Kalifornicans.
