A full-scale military crackdown on the Hong Kongers resisting imposition of mainland-style tyranny may be in the cards, but President Xi and his supporters must understand that they will pay a monumental price for any bloodbath. From Xi’s perspective, this is terrible timing, all the more painful because it was a change in Hong Kong’s extradition law pushed by Beijing that set off the protests.
A pair of videos on YouTube appear to show columns of military units moving into Hong Kong (hat tip: Conservative Treehouse)
And the regime has ended the three days of protests (video here) at Hong Kong International Airport by shutting down the facility, one of the biggest nodes in the world’s international air travel network. Low profile, this is not. And that is one huge problem for the tyrants.
At this very moment, President Trump is fighting a lonely battle with China over its massive theft of intellectual property, currency manipulation and trade barriers. Beijing has been hoping that it could play off other advanced economies – currently noncombatants – against Trump, offering them the export markets that it would deny to the United States in retaliation for Trump’s tariffs and pressure. But if China brutally cracks down in Hong Kong as it did in Tiananmen 30 years ago, public pressure in Europe, Japan, South Korea, and Canada (among others) will make it difficult for their governments to side openly with China. The very last thing that Xi wants is a united front on trade. For almost two decades, China has enjoyed all the fruits of membership in the World Trade Organization without being held to account for its behavior that violates the agreement.

Ji I wonder how this ends
RE: Ji I wonder how this ends
Unless both sides decide to talk it out, it is NOT going to end well. Tian An Men redux is what I fear.
PR China is a leftist totalitarian dictatorship with a bloodthirsty attitude and a bloody history.
How do you think this will end?
China showing their true colors, when it matters.
The weekend thread was unconfirmed. Surely we have Hong Kong Freepers. We need confirmation from the ground.
This was pre-ordained the day China took over from GB. The thugs cant abide freedom and were going to stamp it out. I predict that they will pay an economic price for this as business flees.
Some things never change. Political power comes out of the barrel of a gun in China and other despotic regimes such as Iran. The Chinese Communists have never been shy about shedding blood, using starvation as a political weapon, herding people into concentration camps, forcing abortions or shooting prisoners to sell their organs for hard currency to achieve their goals.
And the paper tiger, known as the U.N., will ignore this massacre, just as they did the Tienanmen Square stuff!
Time to send in Steve McQueen.
Let’s say Cal said it was leaving. Do you think DJT would send in troops to stop it?? Actually I do because while it would pain him to do so, once something like that happens to a country it would continue until there were few states under the same flag. IMO, this is why sanctuary cities and the like should never have been allowed to do what they have been doing. The first one should have been suppressed. Now we have 20 or more cities deciding on their own immigration policy.
Soon the PRC will take actions that will justify ALL US measures taken against China, thereby making Trump appear very far-sighted and wise.
That’s ridiculous.
If we would just open one way trade where they get rich the peasants will move to middle class and SOONER or LATER democracy HAS TO happen.

Well, that picture was taken in Shenzhen - not Hong Kong.
That's why the States demanded a Bill of Rights be added to our Constitution back in 1789, an that's why the Second Amendment was included in that Bill of Rights.
Thanks, that’s what I was looking for in those videos.
Until the BBC reports troops in the streets of Hong Kong, everything else is bunk.
No problem!
The good citizens of Hong Kong can use their 1st and 2nd amendment rights.
Until the BBC reports troops in the streets of Hong Kong, everything else is bunk.
Right now, they are busy covering the recent important “suicide” in NYC.
The Chinese army is just going in to ensure the safety of the children.
Something had to be done.
Why would any of those citizens of Hong Kong need a military weapon?
Governments dont harm their own citizens.
The BBC has been actively reporting on Hong Kong.
For today; flights out of Hong Kong’s Airport are suspended and 180 flights canceled, also Cathay Pacific has announced it will fire anyone who takes part in the protests.
We have major military facilities in California dont forget.
