New California Law Requires Presidential Candidates To Release Tax Returns
NPR ^ | 07-30-2019 | Scott Rodd

A new law in California will require candidates for president to release their tax returns in order to appear on the primary ballot in March, 2020.

"States have a legal and moral duty to do everything in their power to ensure leaders seeking the highest offices meet minimal standards, and to restore public confidence," said California Gov. Gavin Newsom in his signing statement Tuesday. "The disclosure required by this bill will shed light on conflicts of interest, self-dealing, or influence from domestic and foreign business interest."

Candidates will have to submit five years of tax returns by November to be eligible for the primary ballot. California officials will post the information online for the public to access.

Newsom insists the law is constitutional, but it will almost certainly face a challenge in federal court. The law does not name a specific candidate, but opponents say it's a partisan ploy meant aimed at President Trump. They argue removing Trump's name from the ballot for failing to release his tax returns would amount to voter suppression.

Big deal. If I were Trump I'd tell them to pound sand and ignore them. I wouldn't even bother challenging this in court. He has zero chance of carrying the state in the general election. Let them keep his name off the ballot. The embarrassment to CA and the Dems will be political money in the bank.

The law is unconstitutional anyway. States can’t dictate requirements for federal office.

Prima facie unconstitutional.

President Trump has no reason to seek the California GOP delegates since he has no real primary challenge.

On the upside, we will see all the Democratic tax returns.

DOA. The law apparently focuses on primaries and unless I am mistaken courts have ruled that it is solely up to the parties to set rules and run their primaries.

Next up:

Gavin "I'm A Statist Front Hole" Nuisance signs a California law making it a serious felony to be a white 73-year-old billionaire whose initials are DJT, and who is a resident of New York State who lives in downtown Washington DC in a large white building.

But it's NOT a "bill of attainder", nosirree Bob.

Someone should club that POS Nuisance like a baby Harp seal, get it on video and sell it for 20 bucks a pop.

I'd buy ten copies.

States don’t even have to hold presidential elections. The Constitution says that the electoral votes shall be apportioned in whatever manner the state legislature dictates. Well into the 20th century the presidential ballot in South Carolina was a meaningless beauty contest. Every election year the state legislature met and assigned the states electors to the candidate of the Democratic Party. I can’t remember when that stopped. I think it was in the 1960’s.

With Barack Hussein Obama, the Long Form Birth Certificate must show up 3 years after assuming office.

It’s only for the primary, which he doesn’t have to even participate.

The RATS in one party Commiefornia have gone a long way in suppressing opposing votes. They are trying again even with the primaries. The new RAT governor needs to be slapped down any way possible.

Another destroyed DemocRAT state.

Trump should not even ask to be on the primary ballot in CA. Let them take their ball and go home.

Ignore this Leftist cabal. CA has the most ignorant voters in the nation and they will not keep illegals from voting, so what’s the point in challenging this cry for attention from an irrelevant state?

California votes will not count towards presidental total vote count. This is one way to attack the electoral college.
