Michael Moore: 'A Professional Politician' Can't Beat Trump in 2020

Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore said Thursday night there is not a single person among the more than two dozen Democratic presidential candidates that inspires the base of the party enough to beat President Trump in 2020.

"We have to have a beloved American running, not a professional politician," he told "Late Night" host Seth Meyers. "You've got to have someone who inspires the base. The base, here, of the Democratic Party, are women, people of color, and young adults between 18-35. That's 70 percent of who's going to vote next year."

He did predict that the Democratic candidate in 2020 could again win the popular vote but lose the Electoral College, as in 2016.

Democrats need a candidate that gives them the same “feeling” they had about President Obama.

“You couldn't wait to get to the polls... Who are you going to say that about of the 25 that are running? Right now, when you wake up a year from November, 'I can't wait to get to the polls so I can vote for... John Hickenlooper!'" he said jokingly. "Or 'Joe Biden!' I love Joe Biden... but we gotta win!"

The “safest candidate” in this election is not what will bring victory to the Democrats, he said, and would be a “huge mistake.” A Democratic “version” of Donald Trump is what’s needed, he argued.

“He's a street fighter. We need a street fighter. That's the only way you're going to defeat him," he said. "You're going up against a bully."

Meyers then asked if he saw any street fighters among the crop of Democratic candidates, but said he didn’t have to name names.

"Uh... two," Moore responded, adding that Bernie was one of them.

So...Moore doesn’t think Sanders is a professional politician? Really?

I know that a lot of people in FR scoff at the idea of the Mooseshell running.

I don't scoff at the idea, I relish it.

That trans American hating beast, would have the same chance as the rashidatalibomarcortezpressley combo.

When Barr drops his first indictments, and thinking people start looking for the real source, do you think anyone that is remotely close to the obummer will have a prayer?

Maybe I'm too much of a glass half full guy, but I believe that anyone obummer touched is in deep trouble, including his beard.

Just because someone may not like Moore's political opinions, doesn't mean his political analysis is wrong. I think he is right here. For example, Trump would eat Warren's lunch. The only one on the D side that shows any amount of doing whatever to win is Kamala Harris (Ankles Up!)

If somebody comes along with no record to speak of, but is widely known, would pose problems for Trump, because there are fewer things on record he could pound them over the head with. I think Michelle Obama would be as difficult for Trump to run against than anyone currently in the field.

Trump should start a nationwide investment program that is easy for young people to join. Many with 401k plans are interested in learning more but don’t know how to start. Those with plans are very happy with Trump.

"We have to have a beloved American running, not a professional politician,"

I suppose that means he'll announce his candidacy soon?

I agree Mike, you should do everything you can to insure that Bernie is your party’s candidate.

Moore needs to run himself, perhaps with Alec Baldwin as a running mate.

He’s right... He, for as screwball as he is, got, to some extent, what was happening in 2016... one of the few leftists who did.

Trump is going to be re-elected by the biggest EC victory since Reagan.

Short of a black swan event.

May I suggest you recruit Nicholas Maduro, he is the Ultimate Democrat Politician. Or how about Vicente Fox??

The work is all in place but could benefit from Trump leadership.

He could call in the CEO’s of Vanguard, Fidelity, TD Ameritrade and one or two others and ask them to develop Starter Grade Government (treasury department) approved index funds where as little as $100 or so opens an account and there are monthly contributions of say $50 or so. The entry should be cheap and flexible.

The investors are in effect investing in broad index funds and America. Betting on America is a pretty good bet

The companies already have such funds and the transition should be very easy.

Most of the work is already done. No Congressional approval is needed.

Michelle Obama would be about as electable as US President as Jussie Smollet.

“He’s opening the door for Michelle Obama.”
My thoughts all along. When the time is right, Rats will dump Biden making way for their ‘savior’ Michelle. Probably why Zero hasn’t intervened for Biden. IMHO

Michelle Obama would be about as electable as US President as Jussie Smollet.

In a logical, rational world you'd be correct. But in *our* world she'd very probably win if she were the nominee.

He’s opening the door for Michelle Obama.

She will not run--too close ties to the whole Russiagate debacle.

Sorry mike, there’re aren’t any beloved leftists loons. Leftist democrats by definition are liars and no decent person truly admires that.
