McConnell is an idiot. The right answer to Articles of Impeachment from the House is to say, screw you, we are not hearing arguments or taking up a vote. There is nothing in the Constitution that REQUIRES the Senate to follow up with the House. They can decline to take it. McConnell is an idiot if he allows arguments and a vote, but then I digress — he is an idiot anyway.
The Constitution confers a sole power to try impeachments. It does not REQUIRE they exercise that sole power.
Maybe McConnell is making a political calculation to show the president is exonerated, but I would not even recognize the Houses attempt to impeach.
