Mayor Lori Lightfoot: Gun Control Hasn’t Failed Chicago
Breitbart ^ | 7/19/2019 | Awr Hawkins

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot rejects claims gun control has failed her city and instead blames states without as many gun laws.

In an interview posted by New This News only days removed from a weekend in which 41 were shot, nine fatally, in Chicago, Lightfoot blamed Chicago’s gun crime on Indiana. She described Indiana’s laws as too lax, and suggested the laws allow criminals to travel out of state, acquire guns, then return and use those guns criminally on the streets of Chicago.

Lightfoot then suggested more federal gun control is the central solution for Chicago gun crime, that universal background checks must be enacted from the top down.

Mexico has top-down gun control. The country has universal background checks and one gun store, and CBS News reports the store is the “one place in all of Mexico where you can legally buy a gun.” Despite these things, Mexico witnesses 94 firearm homicides a day compared with the 30 to 33 firearm homicides daily in the U.S.

No they haven’t failed they are working exactly the way they were intended. The Chicago elites are well armed, many not even have a license if past history is in play. No they don’t give a hoot for the minorities, the young or even children. Have you noticed when these shootings make the news only when they occur in a non Democratic area.

It's harder to get the laws you really want if the laws you have appear to be working.

This is one of the the most idiotic line of logic she could take but nobody will seriously challenge her on it.

They put 1000+ more cops on the streets over the last several weekends, and violence went up! She needs to fire the police chief. But if she did that she’d catch all kinds of heck from the politicians. Chicago is dysfunctional from the decay of decades (a century actually) of corruption and mismanagement.

Actually, the article points out how gun control has failed to keep Mexicans safe. Gun control is intended to keep the ruling party safe from revolution.

“the laws allow criminals to travel out of state”

Maybe criminals should be in prison.

Maybe Chicago’s politicians should spend some time in prison too, helping reform their citizens.

The laws don’t allow an Illinois resident to purchase a gun in Indiana.

Worth trpeating:

If Chicago's crime rates are so high because guns are so freely available in Indiana, why is the crime rate there so much lower?

And it’s illegal for a criminal to purchase a gun in ANY state.

Wash, rinse, repeat. This is what all Chicago mayors say and have said for decades.

Same old tired bs story line.

Stupid is as stupid does (or says in this case).

It's like any other leftist idea, it fails miserably but they blame the surrounding states or countries that don't have the problem.

I have heard the same arguments about socialism or Communism.

The excuse is it "failed" because the socialist or Communists did not have complete control of the world.

The why is Indiana’s gun crime rate so much lower than Chicago? Their criminals don’t even have to cross state lines to acquire guns.

Democrat/liberal policies have failed the city. The last Republican mayor in Chicago was from 1927 to 1931. That is ninety years of Democrat control.

Would someone ask this Democ-RAT idiot the “lax” drug laws that inadequately prohibit the possesion and sale of heroin, cocaine, crystal meth, and other Schedule III drugs? Of course the laws that exist are completely prohibitory, save for a small number of government licensed researchers.

Despite this, the illegal trade in these substances grows exponentially, despite the fact that their use requires their complete consumption and continual replacement. Absolute prohibition has not halted the drug trade at all.

Contrast that with a firearm and ammunition, which with resonable and fairly minimal maintenence and proper storage can survive in operable condition for centuries. A complete prohibition on firearms to all non authorized persons, (government only) ostensibly to prevent crime would surely be an even greater failure.

Political creatures like Lightfoot are tyrannical vultures who never let a crisis go to waste as they seek to destroy our constitutional and God given liberties.

You’re trying to argue with an idiot, apparently, using facts, logic, and reason. Forget it, Jake.

Wasting your time. They aren’t operating in good faith, near as I can tell. Not now, not in the past, why would they start now? They aren’t going to be persuaded to your side by honest debate and reasoned discourse, there’s never going to be an “aha!” moment where they say “You know, I never really thought about it that way, and you know what, you’re right”. Since they can’t talk about certain inconvenient facts, they employ extremely dishonest tactics.

Leftists never admit mistakes, they double down on the insanity. Their worldview is so completely at odds with reality they are immune to any kind of “cause and effect” observations. It is hopelessly intractable and has been for a long time.

It is true that criminals don’t follow the laws. I guess the leftists and normal people agree on that, maybe. After that it quickly goes off the rails.

Drugs like heroin are illegal in Chicago, yet massive amounts are bought in the city. And illegal guns are also widely purchased in Chicago. So why blame Indiana?

“Blaming Indiana” should become an all-purpose term meaning “to idiotically scapegoat something.”
