The House on Tuesday voted to formally admonish President Trump, approving a resolution condemning as “racist” his tweets targeting four minority congresswomen.
The 240-187 vote fell largely along partisan lines, as GOP leaders had rushed to the president’s defense in whipping against the measure.
Just four Republicans broke with party ranks to join every voting Democrat, revealing the extent to which Trump’s incendiary remarks had jarred Capitol Hill and forced even some of his closest allies to denounce his behavior. Six Republicans missed the vote.
Rep. Justin Amash (I-Mich.), who recently left the GOP over differences with Trump, also backed the resolution.
rump’s remarks saying the progressive lawmakers should “go back” to the “places from which they came” sparked a flurry of outrage, with Democrats briefly uniting to push back against the attack despite recent divisions between various factions of the party spilling into the public.
The resolution was led by freshman Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.), who is white but was born in Poland. He argued it was a necessary step to push back against racist rhetoric from the White House.
“Even if we may disagree on the details of immigration or border policy, racism is wrong, it is un-American,” Malinowski told The Hill.

He sees how Montgomery County (just next to Bucks) has turned “blue” and he’s trying to keep his family monopoly bread buttered. There are a lot of do-gooder soccer moms and liberals who’ve fled Philly in these burbs now, and he doesn’t want to lose his fat paycheck and all that “pork”. Lots of “Hate Has No Home Here” signs sprouted in yards. Honestly, I’m surprised he hasn’t done an Arlen Spector move yet. I’ll vote for Pres. Trump & down ticket but we might as well have a “D” in this office.
Will Hurd barely squeaked by getting re elected in 2018 they kept finding democrat votes. He many not win his next election in 2 years.
If America does not reelect Trump and give congress back to republicans then we deserve what happens next.
There were six “not voting”. Andy Biggs, Michael Burgess, Louis Gohmert, Kay Granger, Kenny Marchant, and Roger Williams.
Five of the six are from my state, Texas. Maybe they were all in the emergency room or at a funeral.
