New York Democrat on Ocasio-Cortez, other progressives: 'Primaries go two ways'

Rep. Greg Meeks reportedly called out fellow New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives for their ongoing feud with House leadership, saying “primaries go two ways.”

Meeks, who is serving his 11th term in Congress, told the New York Daily News on Friday that Ocasio-Cortez should back down from her public spat with Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

“Primaries go two ways,” he told the Daily News. “If someone picks a fight with somebody else, you fight back. That’s what my parents told me.”

He added: “If you get in the ring, expect that people are going to start throwing punches.”

Meeks, a senior member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), echoed remarks he made in an interview with The Hill on Thursday when he said that those who may try to come after CBC members could face their own primary challengers.

“I don’t know what that agenda is, but if they want to come after members of the Black Caucus, it’s two ways,” warned Meeks, who clashed with Justice Democrats, a progressive group, over support for candidates in a local Queens district attorney race last month.

A growing number of progressive House Democrats, frustrated with the feud between Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez, have accused the freshman New York lawmaker of crossing a line when she suggested that Pelosi was treating minority women unfairly, seemingly referencing herself and three other progressive congresswomen known as “the squad."

President Trump offered rare support for Pelosi on Friday, saying he thought Ocasio-Cortez was “very disrespectful to somebody who’s been there a long time.”

“I deal with Nancy Pelosi a lot and we go back and forth and it’s fine, but I think that a group of people is being very disrespectful to her,” Trump said. “And you know what, I don’t think that Nancy can let that go on.”

Meeks called Ocasio-Cortez’s comments “intolerable,” adding that “we’re all on the same team. You don’t go after the speaker like that.”

Meeks also went after Justice Democrats, which supported Ocasio-Cortez’s congressional bid last year, saying both the group and the candidates it’s vying to support are a potential threat to Democrats holding a House majority.

“I would hope that these individuals would realize who the opposition is here,” Meeks told the Daily News. “The focus should be to keep the majority, grow the majority and win the presidency.”

A second Republican announced Friday that he would launch a campaign challenging Ocasio-Cortez for her seat next year. No Democratic challenger to Ocasio-Cortez has yet to declare their candidacy.

I have always had the feeling that AOC get marching orders from forces trying to create instability in the USA.

Of course, since Obama’s “fundamental transformation” efforts that includes the Stalinist-Democrats

“...Justice Democrats, a progressive group,...”

So basically what you have right now is the Socialist Democrats fighting with the outright Communist Democrats, while the Nazi Democrats try to stay out of the fight until they see which side wins...

Bout sums it all up, I think....

AOC has a better hand than you, Greg. Best sit in a corner and shut up. You’ve got nothing.

She’s likely getting “orders” from the Obama Resistance.

Nanzi went unusually ballistic over remarks belittling her made by AOC's smart*** COS Saikat Chakrabarti. His Twitter response to the dust-up: “All these articles want to claim what a legislative mastermind Pelosi is, but I'm seeing way more strategic smarts from freshman members like @AOC, @IlhanMN , @RashidaTlai and @AyannaPressley. Pelosi is just mad that she got outmaneuvered (again) by Republicans,” Chakrabarti tweeted.

Pelosi studied coolness erupted as she was walking past reporters to say: “by the way, our caucus is very upset about some of the comments that have come from some of the staff of......” Pelosi stopped short of saying Ocasio-Cortez, adding, “Perhaps you are not aware of what is going on?”

npr.org reported the Pelosi/AOC fight escalated when her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti,
compared moderate Democrats to segregationists in a tweet that has since been deleted.

Chakrabarti 's tweet suggested two moderate groups, the Blue Dogs and the New Democrats, should be called New Southern Democrats (Democrats who once supported segregation). Chakrabarti added, "They certainly seem hell bent to do to black and brown people today what the old Southern Democrats did [in] the 40s." Chakrabarti continued to argue on Twitter that the moderate wing may not be racist but was still backing policies that could harm communities of color.

Chakrabarti's comments enraged moderates and members of the Congressional Black Caucus. Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Ala., the vice chair of the moderate New Democrat Coalition and a member of the CBC, released a statement condemning the remarks. "To even insinuate that I, or any other member of the New Dems, would promote policies that are racist and hateful or ones that would negatively impact communities of color is deeply offensive and couldn't be further from the truth," Sewell said.

The Chakrabarti/AOC controversy was so widespread that Pelosi addressed the issue directly Wednesday in a weekly closed-door meeting for all House Democrats. She called on members to have "some level of respect and sensitivity" to the "individual experience" that each member brings to Congress, according to a transcript of her remarks provided by a source in the room.

It is the communists vs. socialists. They expose their true selves and they both lose. Need to buy more popcorn.

Congressional long time ruling class vs the fresh faces. Seems like it is all staged for publicity.
We should turn our attention back to borders and economy.. these nobodies and the Iranian saber rattlers can get their names in the spotlight elsewhere.
We must focus on 2020 instead.

As pelosi said, a glass of water could win in AOC’s district as long as it had a (D) after its name.

AOC won IN A PRIMARY!!!

I kee saying this- the way to unseat an incumebent RINO is in the primaries, when only about 10% of the normal voters vote. (not 10% of the total, 10% of the 30% to 40% that vote)

In some cases you can win a primary with only 10 or 20 of your friends turning out to vote for you.

In my district I asked them how many people voted that day- they said 26 - not 26% 26 total. My guy lost by 2 votes, and would have unseated an incumbent RINO.

Pelosi has control of the situation, as she accurately states The Squad has only four votes and Pelosi has 218.

There's a saying that goes something like, "Experience and treachery will always defeat youth and enthusiasm."

AOC is toast, as she's trying to primary members of the Black Caucus. They will hit back.

Peggy Noonan today, in WSJ, predicts AOC will be neutered and then run for NYC mayor.
