Six shootings occurred the weekend of his town hall. In one instance, a witness reported that the shooter was aiming specifically at police. "To start with trying to heal, the mayor just needs to resign," activist and pastor Mario Sims told the Washington Free Beacon, adding that Buttigieg should demote Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski to cleanse the department of bad blood.
Sims also added that he believes Buttigieg is racially "tone-deaf" and should consider retiring from politics until he has "spent some time evaluating this."
"I understand political ambition, I understand that," Sims said. "But you're playing games with the lives of the people here, and innocent police officers."
Sims has clashed with Buttigieg in the past, speaking out against the mayor's decision to demote Boykins. That decision, coupled with Buttigieg's lack of transparency following it, Sims said, has opened a rift between South Bend's police and its black communities that disqualifies Buttigieg from political legitimacy.
"Right now there's no way he can stand on the stage and honestly talk about the issues pressing this country when he can't even successfully address the dire issues of race, lack of diversity, and poverty, not to mention the homeless issue in this city," Sims said. "If you can't even address those issues in a city of 100,000, my God, how can you address those issues in 50 states?"
Former president of South Bend's Board of Public Safety Pat Cottrell also told the Free Beacon that Buttigieg should resign and that the mayor should "definitely not" be running for president after this latest incident.
Cottrell said that in addition to Buttigiegs checkered record on racial issues, the mayor has been a poor administrator when faced with internal disagreements in city government.
"Pete is a fraud," he said.

Maybe mayor Pete should spend more time in his city, doing the job he was elected to do.
How much time does he spend in his city doing his day job? Or is he absent much of the time as he runs for president?
Sounds like South Bend needs a law-and-order Mayor.
Mayor of South Bend-Over.
Even antifa realizes how much mayor peter sucks.
His homosexuality is a qualification that trumps all others combined. And negates any of his failings as an administrator.
Does it negate the race card being played against him? Don’t know. It will be interesting, a clash of liberal identity politics.
Or just a mayor that shows up......
So the bottom line is that Mayor Bootyplug is an aspiring Rahm Emanuel...?
is almost without exception a bad combination. And he's ranting about "race" and "sensitivity"
He and Buttgeek deserve each other.
HOORAY Mario Sims! Some pushback from a pastor.
Any church that has an activist for a pastor, needs the hell taxed out of them.
“Pete is a fraud,” he said.

Hey, we knew that.
Why didn’t everybody else?
Oh, yeah, the Ministry of Propaganda propping up their symbols of celebrating perversity.
Buttplug would make a perfect running mate for Biden, sniff that one slow Joe.
Considering the crisis the town is in, he either needs to resign the mayorship and allow someone who can devote full time to the job- or quit his campaign and head back home himself to show leadership.
“nothing would go farther in driving black and Hispanic voters toward Trump that if the Democrats forced Buttplug down their throats.”
Don’t forget the southern evangelicals. Some of them clutch on to their old-time Rat roots and have found it hard to let go their party. This would do it.
The Fairy King is getting hits like this in the DNC dominated media? Weird.
South Bend needs the National Guard.
Let’s see, Mayor Pete has put forth basically two reasons for his candidacy:
1. I’m a tough guy because I served in Afghanistan (this is kind of like John I served in Vietnam Kerry).
After watching his performance during the South Bend town hall I think we can put this one to rest. Mr. Tough guy was almost in tears.
2. America needs a mayor/executive to run the Federal Executive branch.
Well, he seems to have all kind of problems running the (something like 298th) largest city. Perhaps he should get his house in order first.
Other than I want to be President just because, I don’t see a reason for his candidacy now.
I’m all in for anything that gives democrats grief.
