Ask Amy: Correcting the record on ammo and guns (barf alert)
Chicago Tribune ^ | 1 july 2019 | Amy Dickinson

Posted on 07/01/2019 8:41:10 AM PDT by rellimpank

Dear Readers: I recently ran a question from “Dumbfounded Father” in my column. This man had a 24-year-old daughter who was living with him. She had recently disclosed that she possessed a .40-caliber semi-automatic weapon, with hollow point bullets. This father did not want to have guns in his home.

In my response, I incorrectly stated that hollow point bullets “explode.” I stated that this ammunition is illegal in 11 states. I take responsibility for this error, and apologize to readers who were misinformed, confused or furious about it.

I reached out to Eric Delbert, a second-generation law enforcement officer and owner (with his father) of LEPD firearms range and training facility in Columbus, Ohio, who patiently described the characteristics of hollow point bullets. They do not explode. They expand. This ammunition seems to be only partially banned in one state (New Jersey). He also pointed out that the .40-caliber semi-automatic is extremely popular, and in his opinion an appropriate choice for this young woman.

At least she had it in her to “set the record straight”. She needs to hear from a bevy of females who carry and go to the range, IMO. And from those who have been victims of crimes, who WISH they had been armed at the time.

I saw this pro-abortion at any time, pro-lefty asshat’s article today. What a total ass and totally unaware of what the Second Amendment says and stands for. It’s a shame that she has a big daily column for spreading her crap.

First line illustrates she’s an ignorant know it all NO NOTHING.

Hollow points do NOT explode, they “fragment”....It’s their purpose.

That’s probably the whole point of the column, to spread crap, and get out in front of anything contrary to the narrative.

I noticed this years ago in the Dear Abby/Ann Landers, many of the letters had a certain ... odor about them. They were just a little too pat, a little too strawman sounding. I suspect the letters often aren’t genuine, just carefully made up BS all tee’d up and ready to go.

Notice the answer was a “One Way Only”. Notice there wasn’t any balance.

And of course there wasn’t anything approaching “Kudos to your daughter for taking a proactive approach to her safety, how come you’re such a sad sack example of a pussy? What is wrong with you?”

Read the article.

She acknowledged that error in her previous scribblings, and apologized for it.

Most of the rest of the article is nonsense, but give her credit for the small part that isn’t.

A good hollow point never fragments. It expands quickly using its energy faster so that it does not travel through the target wasting energy and possibly hurting someone beyond the target. Because of the quick expansion the bullet makes larger wound in less space.

Hollow points are much safer bullets to everyone but the target.

My friend who was an ER physician told me he could always spot a hollow point wound right off as the bullet was not as deep andgenerally in 3-4 pieces.

He was in Chicago so apparently they tend to use the “cheap” variety.

“I also have a bias against the gun lobby that gaslights Americans into believing that gun ownership is not only a right, but also — these days — a necessity, as many readers have suggested.”

And further down:

“School killings, church killings, workplace killings, mall killings, partner killings, accidental shootings — we are awash in violence...”

Yeah, but you can't know that for sure, so why take the risk?

Do not ever.. EVER educate a gun-grabber. They will never use that knowledge to gain sense, they will only use it to improve their anti-gun, anti-defense insanity.

Her correction was incomplete.

I'm sure her expert not only informed her that hollow-points don't explode, they expand, but also that expansion makes them safer than full-metal-jackets in the home. It limits their ability to penetrate through the target and hit others in the room or even - through walls/ceilings/floors - hit others in other rooms or apartments.

The author either lacks the intelligence to have understood the complete explanation/correction or lacks the honesty to have reveal it.

Presumably the man knows his daughter. Maybe she shouldn’t have a firearm. Or anything sharp.

“Advice” columnists are fake phony fraud. They compose the “letters” that they say they receive, so they can give the usual politically correct answers.

“I don’t have to know the intricacies of a car engine to advocate for commonsense driving and licensing laws.”

yeah, but if told us most cars have three tires, the driver sits facing backwards and the engines ran on kerosene, a normal person would really wonder whether you were qualified to advocate for “commonsense driving” ...

...give her credit for the small part that isn’t.

A pox on the liberal POS.

I give her credit for nothing.

She, in her liberal haughtiness and with a misguided sense of superiority, lectures on things that she has no idea of.

She can apologize all day long, it means nothing coming from a gun-grabbing apologist liberal puke.

Persons like her are to be ignored and ridiculed, which I am more than glad to do.

What she really ought to do is publish a piece acknowledging her massive stupidity and admitting that any dumbass nitwit writing to her for advice is also massively stupid.

The war has begun.

To hell with her and her pitiful "apologies" and with any "expert" she cites or skewed statistics she quotes.

Does anybody actually read her crap?

I certainly don't and I also won't go within five feet of that fish wrap called the Chicago Tribune.

I fart in their direction.
