How Roy Moore Could Actually Win Alabama’s Republican Senate Primary
FiveThirtyEight ^ | Live Blog: Women’s World Cup Jun. 20, 2019 | Geoffrey Skelley

A large primary field may fragment the vote, making it unlikely that a candidate could win a majority and avoid a runoff and making it easier for Moore to advance to a runoff with only the support of his base.

The point is that Moore does have a path — especially a path to a primary runoff if there’s a crowded GOP field. And if he does get there, he would be only one step away from a rematch with Jones.

Moore would still have a decent chance of winning a general election in conservative Alabama, and that is surely a big part of why he’s running again.

It’s a disgrace Manchin wasn’t shown the door last November. He ran for another term he didn’t even want and is utterly useless. I’m not a big fan of Gov. Justice (he should’ve properly run in the GOP primary in 2016), but I hope he curbstomps Manchin if he runs for Governor next year. Manchin just needs to resign and have Morrisey take his seat.

Oh, I’m so wounded.

What I don’t want is 6 more yrs of Jones.

Moore will give us just that.

Trump got 1.3 million votes in 2016 in Alabama. Whomever gets the Republican nomination will be the next Senator from Alabama, and that means Moore if he wins the primary.

If you think that over 650,000 Trump voters are going to vote for Doug Jones instead of their party's nominee, you are foolish.

Accusing people of being bots is a sure sign that Moore is flopping...

and it doesn’t say much about your “critical thinking skills.”

He would hand the election to Jones on a silver platter.

I forget. Did I show you the math, or was that someone else?

Trump got over 1.3 million in 2016. I'll wager he will do even better in Alabama in 2020.

Doug Jones got something like 670,000 votes. He has to add another 630,000 votes to his 2017 total just to get the number of votes Trump will get.

Do you think an additional 630,000 people in Alabama are going to vote Democrat in 2020?

I don't.

I think 2017 was peak Democrat, and Jones is going to get something around 700,000 maybe. The Republican Senate candidate will likely get over a million votes, even if it's Moore, and Jones will be short by at least 300,000.

Do you see the math working out some other way?

They communicate like bots. Same talking points and slander spewage regardless of how many times you enlighten them on facts.

I have been arguing for decades, and what I have discovered is that people don't wait for facts to make up their mind, they decide what they want to believe on an emotional level, then they go looking for "facts" that support what they wish to believe.

In a lot of cases, they are simply unable mentally to grasp information that contradicts what they want to believe. It's as if they are hypnotized to not be able to see it, no matter how it is presented, or how many times it is shown.

Cognitive dissonance.

Too close to the last election for Moore. The same issues will be in play.

I think Moore’s chances are 60/40 for the same result.

That’s mostly because he’s not good with the media and he’s not rich.

Good. It was just as superficial a comment as anything you've said. Your reply is just as thoughtless as the rest of your spew.

Why don't you try replying to my post 328, there's plenty of meat there.

He had the media, the RNC, the GOPe, the DNC, our members in the Senate, and the House slamming him.

So did Trump and he won Alabama by about 20 points.

I never said there weren't dirty tricks involved in his defeat. That being said, it wouldn't have mattered if he were a good candidate.

It absolutely senseless to risk losing the seat when a conservative like Mo Brooks could win it easily.

Give it up. He’s not going to be the nominee. People know better.

I don't know if he will or if he won't. It's my understanding he has a pretty powerful base of support in Alabama, and he may very well get the nomination.

I wish he wouldn't, but I understand why he feels he must.

If I were in Alabama I'd be terribly torn about what to do. Thankfully I don't have to make that choice, and I hope God will guide those in Alabama who must.

BTW, I could just as easily accuse you two of being part of his campaign team.

If I or we were part of his campaign team, I/we would certainly not be wishy washy about wanting him in the race.

I respect Moore's courage to stand up to the Federal dictators, and I very much wanted him to win in 2017, but at this point I think it's in the best interest of the nation for him to let someone else win the nomination.

But I will support whatever the people of Alabama decide. So far as i'm concerned, it's their business who they want.

The problem is that the rulings going back are not based in Constitutional law. Even early on, the states themselves were allowed to declare what was the official Christian sect for each.

The position of the Constitution is easy enough for even a moron to understand: That the federal government was not to declare itself aligned with a specific sect of Christianity (it was ALWAYS understood that the U.S. Government was Christian, although had they realized the assault on Christianity 150+ years hence, they would’ve spelled it out). Meaning they didn’t want the President serving as head of the American church of whatever sect, a la the King or Queen of England with their church. Simple.

All these “edicts” curbing religious freedoms from the courts have been a blatant violation of the stipulation spelled out, “Shall not prohibit the free exercise thereof.” The courts took the unconstitutional side of “prohibiting.” It was a systematic and deliberate attempt to undermine our basic foundations and morality. We’ve seen the collapse since the purge of prayer from schools, which violated the rights of all the teachers and students who wanted to exercise their rights.

It’s sad that Roy Moore was one of the few jurists who was willing to stand up and say, “NO ! You will not violate my Constitutional rights as spelled out.” To see these termites on FR attacking a man of that courage is sickening.

Another bot response. Take a crack at 328.

If you want a deeper thought, you'd note that I never said that I wanted Moore to run again - I only said that he got a raw deal and exposed the systemic machine that's arrayed against conservatives.

It's you that hasn't been able to distinguish between defending the wrongs committed against people like Moore and the political machine that's been turned against them for other motives.

So if you want to play games, go find a comment where I said I wanted Moore to run again. I only wanted a man to be able to get his reputation back, to expose the way that the powerful cast aside the inconvenient, to expose how the media manipulate the proceedings, and to expose the ignorant and uncritical who easily fall into the memes laid by others.

If a republican candidate isn’t aware that the media is out to get him/her, then that person has no business running.

I think they are all aware the media is out to get them, but I don't think many of them are aware to the degree that the media liars regard it as a holy quest on par with a "Crusade" to get them.

The media hate Republicans with a level of despising which should be reserved for murderers.

A lot of Republicans do not grasp to what level the media people want to burn us "witches" at the stake.

Trump gets it though.
