“Three to five years ago, we were 100% non-H-2A because there was an adequate amount of workers around,” Mr. Brawdy said“

He admitted to multiple felonies. Arrest him.

I’m sure that Governor Cuomo will take care of NY farmers.

“many agricultural companies that had relied on illegal immigrant laborers are turning to H-2A visas”

The owners of agricultural companies that rely on illegal laborers should be arrested, put on trial and put in prison. Then RICO laws should be used to confiscate their business.

Be interested to see how many dollars in federal farm subsidies these farms receive.

72 workers is not a small operation.

That is a large corporate farm.

And they cheat, and cheat a lot.

I know a lot of mom and pop farms are in trouble, big trouble.

It’s a mistake to let them wither on the vine.

As far as labor costs go, robots are being developed that will be able to do quite a bit; eliminating the need for (illegal) labor. Finding and keeping workers should not be a problem going forward.

Hopefully the family farms will survive until that time.

TOO MUCH FARM

Capitalism says Corporate bought up too much farm than they can handle, if the management plan requires illegal means.

BACK TO FAMILY FARM

May you creatively destruct back to family farms.
May Corporate support deregulation for a change.

As Not seen on TV ...

Fruit and veggies have high transportation costs.

Adding even 100% to the labor cost would be insignificant to the retail price of fruit and veggies.

1 acre of lettuce costs $3,600 to harvest, but the total cost to plant, irrigate, and package that 1 acre of lettuce is over $16,000.

The profit on the lettuce is $17,000 at wholesale prices.

The transportation costs and store profit add more costs.

Maybe the farmers should go on welfare like the workers who won’t work.

I didn’t realize farming was still allowed in NY, I thought that they had re-zoned all agricultural land to recreational to increase tax revenue during the 1980’s Great Stumble Forward.

Sorry but I thought they were shipped a fresh load of hepatitis infected 3rd world refugees? Are the farmers saying that the new illegals won’t do the jobs the old illegals did, and Americans still don’t?

Most of the farm workers, over 70% are Americans. It is these farmers and probably corporate farmers that want the cheap labor and do not want to hire Americans.
