Washington (AFP) - Iran said Thursday it had recovered parts of a US spy drone in its territorial waters, after downing the aircraft in a missile strike slammed by President Donald Trump as a "big mistake."
Under pressure to respond to the high-stakes incident in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, where a series of tanker attacks have sent tensions soaring with Iran, Trump initially struck a combative tone.
"Iran made a very big mistake!" he tweeted in response to news Iran had shot down the Global Hawk surveillance aircraft -- which the Pentagon says was above international waters at the time.
"This country will not stand for it, that I can tell you," he said later at the White House.
But as the overnight incident whipped up fears of open conflict between the United States and its declared foe Iran -- sending crude oil prices up more than six percent -- Trump moved swiftly to dial back tensions.
"I find it hard to believe it was intentional, if you want to know the truth," Trump said. "I think that it could have been somebody who was loose and stupid that did it."
The president's mixed message left the world unsure what Washington's next move would be.

You win...Everything went straight to the bottom and including the guidance systems, extensive wiring/electronics, landing gear, tires, video cameras et al.

Verify the Chinese didn’t hack the GPS navigation and reporting.

Hopefully, American recovery efforts are already on-site. Since the explosive destruction occurred at 30,000 feet or more, the debris likely will have fallen over a scattered large area.
With the recent attacks on 6 tankers, I cannot believe that there would not be satellites over the Strait of Hormuz That would not have imagery of the drone being shot down. I so, they would show coast lines, etc.
There should be very simple and obvious proof.
If limpet mine video or whatever evidence comes to me via the US intel community, then to me it’s NOTHING.
I don’t care if it’s ultra hi-rez slo-mo, certified, and the agents show Iranian ID on film, to me it’s MADE UP.

Yup. And radar and/or FLIR data showing the point of origin of the boats which attacked the tankers in the prior attacks.
A question I’ve not seen posed by anyone else here: Who sends a surface watercraft to the scene of a crime in BROAD DAYLIGHT to recover a mine which was probably untraceable? “Oh, but we took our flag off of our boat to hide our identity.” “The Iranians are coming! The Iranians are coming!” /s Jeese Louise. We’ve had satellites spied on the region ever since Trump exposed that there was some undefined threat. You & I know damned well that they had eyes-on.

The problem for the Iranians is the drone operators have exact GPS readings of its location. The problem with the Iranians, even with GPS, they couldn’t find their own asses.

Kind of jumped a few sharks with that one...Trump is in control and will not be pushed by anyone - he had many telling him he had to retaliate right now and he let folks know it would be that easy and quick before he opted to “soften” to allow things to unravel.
