It’s not just “the first country they reach.” According to the article, it has to sign a “Safe-Third Agreement.”
Seems like it depends. A new term as of this week it “safe third country” and supposedly if mehico doesn’t curb aliens, they’ll have to agree to become one of the safe 3rd countries but I guess Guatemala already has or has agreed to.
Weird eh? Here we’ve been told for a long time that people are supposed to ask for asylum the first country they get to. Now it has to be some Safe 3rd country.
