Police agencies in Los Angeles and Corona are investigating the circumstance of a shooting inside a Costco Friday night by an off-duty LAPD officer who said he was assaulted while holding his young child.
The shooting which sent scores of panicked shoppers running and prompted a huge police response left one man dead and two of the mans relatives in critical condition, authorities said.
Later, however, police said no one was in custody and that there had not been an arrest in the case.

2 separate sources say no gun was pulled by any of the victims, yet this cop fired (according to witnesses) 7-8 shots at point blank range, sounds like he wanted them dead. Apparently not even detained for questioning.
The fact he is an LEO isn’t relevant expect that it conveys the right to carry a weapon.
Well, I am not saying you made it up, but you know what they like to say, "A photo or it didn't happen." Heck, I'd even settle for a reference so I could check it myself (you may have something more credible than my google search). But again IMO it doesn't matter if they were unarmed.
It does bother me he was induced to fire 7-8 rounds, if true. That seems unnecessary at point blank range, especially horizontal in a crowded (?) Costco. The apparently good-sized, fit and angry approaching youngster might have warranted more than one, but unless mom and dad were swinging baseball bats they were about to purchase... we will all have to wait for the videos.
Apart from the exception you noted in my statement, relevant to what?
The issue is not who in Costco at the time of the event was entitled to carry. Nor is the issue whether one who carries can be legally fearful only of another who also carries.
"Witnesses said they saw a man with a Mohawk haircut arguing with someone near a freezer section when shots rang out at least six times". The man involved in the argument was killed, Corona police Lt. Jeff Edwards said.and
a man with a Mohawk haircut was arguing with a woman with a child when gunshots broke out.It seems witness say argument, possibly with the cops wife.
Even the police called it an argument that escalated to a shooting.
There was apparently an argument inside, some type of argument that turned into a gunshot, Edwards said in the news conference. From my understanding, it is not domestic. Then everyone found out it was an off-duty LEO, and it was an "assault".
Was French the man with the Mohawk, or did he insert himself into an argument? Witnesses describe an argument, not an assault? How were the parents shot? Pulling their son away from a scuffle? Just in the line of fire? Trying to stop "a man with a gun" who was shooting their son? Hopefully, video will tell, because we all have no clue. Unfortunately, past abuse of the "blue wall" raises suspicion.
“This attack resulted in the officer firing his weapon, striking the male and two of the male’s family members. The family members are being treated at local hospitals and are in critical condition”
Boy kept his head and shot true.
“I suspect the horse manure will run deep on this one.
Nice to know everything in advance.”
OK, Finnegan, what planet?
I just gooled “costco shooting” and read through a number of articles, 2 of which quoted a witness saying 7-8, 2 other articles quoted witness as saying at least 6. So at least 2 bullets apiece at point blank range. The cop was a coward who overreacted.
The first person to call these poor people "perps" deserves all the abuse that can be heaped upon them. Those are clean-cut family people, so their son is mentally handicapped and unable to speak. They go as a family to Costco. What could possibly occur on an aisle in Costco that warranted popping off 6 to 8 shots at point blank range, killing the mentally handicapped 32 year old son and critically wounding his parents who appear to be in their 60's? Bad cop, should never have been on any police force, my opinion. Bad shoot, lost his temper, killed a family over bumping his shopping cart or some juvenile BS.
The fact he is an LEO isn’t relevant expect that it conveys the right to carry a weapon.
Understand that I’m writing this from a state that recognizes Constitutional Carry. My beef really is with the fact that for much of the state of California, concealed carry is only for police and the elite.
