Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis just signed into law the toughest sanctuary cities bill ban in the nation, keeping a campaign promise despite apoplectic, snarky media coverage.
DeSantis today signed Senate Bill 168 requiring Florida law enforcement officials and governmental entities to honor federal immigration detainer requests that ask a law enforcement agency to detain someone on probable cause that they can be removed from the country under federal immigration laws. That is, they are here illegally and will be sent home. Because law enforcement is holding them, that means they either have or are accused of committing crimes beyond illegal entry into the U.S.
In sanctuary cities around the nation, law officers cannot hold them for Immigration officials, but must release them back into the population.
The new law prohibits local officials from implementing any sort of sanctuary policies, which problematically had previously not been defined in state law, and gives the governor the authority to remove officials from office if they do not comply with the law.
That is a powerful strong law.
Despite the media talking about how the law is controversial mostly in newsrooms and Democratic headquarters DeSantis and team created a huge, public signing ceremony, live-streamed it on Facebook and had a lot of those involved present. U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, who represents Okaloosa County, where the bill-signing took place, and bill sponsor state Sen. Joe Gruters, of Sarasota, also the chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, joined at the event.
Apparently these guys dont feel it is too controversial.
DeSantis told a packed Okaloosa County Commission Chambers that the bill is about the rule of law and emphasized the issue of public safety.
I said we were going to do certain things, and Im happy to report after having just one legislative session under our belt were delivering on the promises we made to the people of Florida, he said.
Sanctuary cities are popular in liberal states and in some cities in red states. But they are also havens for criminals who obviously flock to those areas where they will be protected from the feds.
DeSantis called them law-free zones where people who are here illegally can commit crimes, and then just walk out the door and continue to do it.
The media is running their normal PR campaign for Democrats. The Tampa Bay Times snarky headline is: Gov. DeSantis signs sanctuary cities ban into law. There arent any in Florida.
Well yes, because there had not been a definition before and this is designed to make sure there wont be any in the future.
Heres the lead right below it.
Fulfilling a key, controversial campaign promise popular with his partys base, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Friday that will ban so-called sanctuary cities in Florida, though the policy is expected to draw a legal skirmish over its constitutionality as it goes into effect next month.
See, its just about playing to the base. But is it? The Hill reported:
A survey from HarvardHarris Poll provided exclusively to The Hill found that 80 percent of voters say local authorities should have to comply with the law by reporting to federal agents the illegal immigrants they come into contact with.
So maybe not all that controversial among Americans after all. Mostly journalists.
Considering the chaotic and tragic crisis at the southern border that President Trump and some Republicans have been trying to fix and being blocked at every turn by activist judges and Democrats in Congress this issue will remain a winner for Republicans in 2020.

I feel sickened to see the states we always thought of as solid red conservative going by the way of liberalism. Texas was always in my mind one of those states. You folks are getting slammed with illegals and I feel so bad about that. I guess al we can do is pray because it seems no mortal man can help. I love and trust Trump but he is fighting an uphill battle and even when he wins one it takes forever to turn things around. Ugh.
Thank goodness he won the election.
“Being here illegally is enough to remove them.”
We have a winner! The hobbles placed on local law enforcement must be removed and sanity restored.
If you are not here legally, get the hell out!!
Ron is a good guy. I have met him a few times and he is the real deal. Very attractive wife, to me, shows that he has excellent judgement. Ok, I am smiling. But he will make Jeb look like a mummy in a tomb, as in, lifeless.
There you go again.
bump for FL freeperlist
Once all the states get polarized on this issue, the "sanctuary cities" will become become wetback concentration camps. The RATs' wet-dream will evolve into clearing houses for ICE to "harvest" and deport the undocumented democRATs.
If they’re not going to come to Florida, then I really hope that Gov Kemp in Georgia is getting ready to sign a similar, if not tougher bill. Then they can all stay away from and move out of Georgia.
Perhaps some of the other states will sign the same or similar bill. Im surprised Texas hasnt. I think the residents of their state should start pushing their governors to jump on this bandwagon .
I think I saw someone comment that Texas wasn’t going to give out birth certificates but may have got sued. No BC, so SSN, no bennies type of thing.
If this country is going to be saved, short of some type of violent civil war and/or the break up of the country into 3 parts, the ONLY thing will be the Governors of the states in the Southeast, Midwest and Mountain state, excluding Colorado, banding together and saying, ENOUGH.
They literally have the entire country by the ballz. Pretty much all food and energy production comes from those states. And, except for a handful of locations, that’s where all the military bases are. Then take into account that the very large majority of states, except for maybe a few in New England, are filled with Conservative or Right Leaning folks, to include Cali, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Washington, Oregon, NY, NJ, Penn. If you took the eastern halves of Washington and Oregon, made it a state and gave the coast to the Progressives, we’d have 2 more Republican Senators and more Republican Rep’s. The only reason any state, except maybe Connecticut, Rhode Island and Mass, are Blue is because of the cities.
The heck with a Constitutional Convention, there’s about 35+ states that, if they joined together and told the Left to pound salt up their collective asses, everything would change. The Democrats wouldn’t or couldn’t do anything.
If only lollipops grew on trees and were good for your teeth and blood sugar.

Unfortunately FL will never have another R Gov now that 3 million more democrats (I mean felons) can vote here now.
Actually Florida recently passed legislation adding hefty fees for prior felons to pay if they want their voting rights restored. Florida winning!!
>
Prior felons = FREE Citizens.
Winning? Since when did the (R)N(C) support dual+ levels of citizenship?? No wonder the brand doesn’t stand for s* *SMH*

... gives the governor the authority to remove officials from office if they do not comply with the law.
>>
If I was governor, I couldn’t wait to go to work in the morning.
>
Wonder how that’ll work for ELECTED positions.
Still, I fail to read anything about PROSECUTING those that violate the law. “Remove from office”?? Oh, I’m sure THAT is *such* a deterrent.
Thats my Governor......a vote well sent!
Thus ends the Obama attempt to balkanize America by diminishing federal law, and handing the country over to areas governed exclusively by the alleged “downtrodden” racial and ethnic minorities, excluding Whites, Asians and Jews of course.
Hoorah for the Governor of Florida!!!

Um, you might want to take note of the very next post after yours... ;-)
