To paraphrase Churchill...the Germans are either at your throat or at your feet.

There are some defenders of Germany here on FR (can't remember their names but they will pop up here shortly to announce themselves). They hold that Germany is just "one" of the many countries of Europe, not the alpha dog.

Here's what VDH says (and I wholeheartedly agree):

Merkel’s Germany is no doubt the acknowledged political leader of Europe, given that its huge economy accounts for well over a quarter of the aggregate 27-member EU annual GDP. But its leadership remains a funny sort, with a spirit now more attuned to its imperious past than to its supposedly enlightened future.

Then I guess it is time to close all the bases in Germany, stop our flow of money, and get out. There are plenty of other countries who want us and finding new locations is very easy.

The third time is the charm? Or are we going best of five?

Yes, and instead of spending their time understanding the geopolitical situation, and understanding the intentions of our potential enemies, our intelligence agencies are trying to unseat a duly elected American President.

the EU is the Fourth Reich controlling Europe now

the Nazis got just a bit smarter and they’ve seized control smoothly (and easily) by trying to hide their anti-Christian and anti-Jewish attitudes..........and by replacing their “Deutschland Uber Alles” rhetoric with the nice soft-sounding communist vocabulary of “peace” and “equality” in “Europe”

its worked, too.

Kick out the commies, leave the EU, and deport every single invader.

It was a big mistake to allow East and West Germany to reunite.

The Achilles Heel for Germany is the influx of Muslim immigrants. Merkel thinks she can control them. That’s like inviting the AIDS virus to attend the sexual orgy you’ve scheduled for the upcoming weekend.

This time with muslims instead of Aryan Nazi skinheads.

And this time Christians as well as Jews.

And the muslims are even more bloodthirsty than the Nazis.

I think in one way Merkle is correct.

The USA is pulling away from Europe and will no longer protect them or bribe them to play nice with each other. We want Europe to start acting like adults.

That may be a big ask. But that is the way it is.

The European elites are living in their own intellectual bubble, like the American Left/Progressive/Liberals. They cannot see what everyone around them sees. That THEY are the problem.

Germany & France, through the mechanisms of the EU are again becoming the bullies in Europe.

This has been the case for a long time. I first lived in Germany in the early 90s. It was clear even then that that rotten 68er generation which was and still is ascendant over there were no allies of America.

It did not matter that America was and still is defending them, nor that America is a western democracy, nor that America provided massive aid to help them rebuild after WWII, twisted the arms of the other Europeans to trade and do business with them when none wanted to, which gave them their constitution, nor that it was once again America which persuaded various skeptics in Europe - INCLUDING FRANCE - to not oppose reunification.

None of that mattered then nor matters today. They are not allies, can not be counted on at all and wish to use anti Americanism to help unify the continent under their control. Furthermore, be it Iran or Cuba or Saddam’s Iraq, they seek to undermine US foreign policy at every turn while making some profit on the side. The sooner Americans recognized that the Yurps in general but most especially the Germans are not our allies and started treating them as such, the better.

This comes from a partly German American who speaks the language and lived there twice.

VDH is one of the few good things left at National Review.

And Merkel is a genius. Her predecessors wasted precious German lives in their attempted violent takeover of Europe. But Merkel uses "Asians" to do it. :)
