University of New Mexico considers building border fence around campus to keep criminals out JENNIFER KABBANY - FIX EDITOR •JUNE 3, 2019

The University of New Mexico is considering whether to build a large border wall around its perimeter to protect the campus community from criminal activity.

The proposed “10-foot-tall, wrought-iron fence with sharp points at the top” would be used “as a security barrier between New Mexico’s largest public university and the rest of the city,” reports the Albuquerque Journal.

The university has faced everything from homeless people on campus to drug users locking themselves in the bathroom stalls to get high to hundreds of car thefts — and even rapes — the newspaper reported.

Consultants paid to help drum up ideas on how to keep the campus safe had suggested the 13,000 feet of fencing, but a campus spokesman told the Journal that there “are no imminent decisions about perimeter security and any strategy involves multiple things to consider before moving forward.”

According to the university’s most recent report on criminal activity on campus, in 2017 there were 18 rapes, 12 cases of fondling, seven robberies, 15 aggravated assaults, 211 motor vehicle thefts, four arson cases, 39 burglaries, 16 liquor law arrests, eight drug arrests, and one illegal weapons arrest.

“Unlike many large state universities, UNM is in the ‘urban center’ of Albuquerque, where crime, notably car theft, and violence are ongoing concerns. The campus’ southern border is along Central Avenue, a high-crime corridor with a large number of panhandlers and transients,” the Journal reports, adding that others simply visit campus to jog or enjoy various theater performances.

Central Ave used to fun. Back in the 60’s. The NMSP had an office at the corner of Central and Lousiana. We used to drag race from the light there west bound on Central.

Hm. UTD is in the middle of Richardson/Plano, SMU in the middle of north Dallas, UNT middle of Denton, UTA middle of Arlington, UT middle of downtown Austin. Yet, somehow, none of these universities have quite the same issues as UNM.

Sure, a wall will help, but what about all their students that live off-campus? Are they going to have security at gates or something? Is there a gate at every road in? (Many university campi have many roads crisscrossing through them, as they're pretty integrated into the surrounding city.) What are they doing about sidewalks?

".... Every major university campus tends to be around total sh*thole and libtarded ‘hoods..."

Well, that's an exaggerated generalization that's not true of all university locations.

I graduated from Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ in 1969. It is still surrounded by clean neighborhoods with nice homes, many of them expensive. I know because I own one of them that I raised my family in. The city does a good job a taking care of any signs of blight.

But UNM however, is in the middle of Albuquerque of Breaking Bad fame.

It ranks as the 10th worst city in the US for crime and deaths. Lots of drugs and poverty.

A campus spokesman said that we have no intention of doing anything pragmatic and practical about securing the UNM campus because that would be discriminating against rapists, drug users and dealers, illegal criminals, and Democrat psychopaths.

My son got a lot of his police training in Albuquerque and said that all his instructors has “kills” of hard core criminals.

Looks like nothing has changed and with a totally incompetent mayor of ALB in charge, as well as a totally psychopathic Governor of the Lujan criminal family, the students at UNM are just going to continue to be targets of New Mexico’s finest citizens.

I’m surprised that the campus spokesman didn’t do a “Hillary” and say, “At this point, what difference does it make”?

New Mexico - just bury your dead, keep electing leftist incompetent Democrats and Mexicanists, and STFU.

You “victims” have no say in your fate and we don’t really give a damn what you think or need. That is the “Democrat Party way”. Just look at Chicago and be quiet.
