The Trump administration on Tuesday imposed major new travel restrictions on visits to Cuba by U.S. citizens, including a ban on many forms of educational and recreational travel.
The Treasury Department said in a statement that the U.S. will no longer allow the group educational and cultural trips known as “people to people” travel to the island. Those trips have been used by thousands of American citizens to visit the island even before the U.S. restored full diplomatic relations with the communist government in December 2014.
Treasury said it would also deny permission for private and corporate aircraft and boats. However, commercial airline flights appear to be unaffected and travel for university groups, academic research, journalism and professional meetings will continue to be allowed.

Russia agreed to provide military training for three leftist regimes in Latin America and increase military visits and exercises following a visit last week to the region by Moscow's Defense Minister Sergei Shoygu, Pentagon officials said.
Shoygu met with defense and military leaders in Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua and signed several agreements on warship visits and military training during the visit, which ran from Feb. 11 to 14. It is not clear whether any new arms deals were completed during the visit.
Defense officials said the Russian leader is seeking bases in the region for strategic bomber flights that Shoygu recently promised would include flights over the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean.

The Black Liberation Army was an organization that grew out of the Black Panther Party, composed of former Black Panther Party members, operating from about 1971-1980. Another two police officers on the list were murdered by the Weather Underground, a domestic terrorist group with ties to the Black Liberation Army.
Despite this readily available information, today the internet was full of articles criticizing those who were upset by Beyonce’s Super Bowl Halftime performance, and questioning how anyone could be upset over a woman “affirming her blackness.” Their analysis couldn’t have been more off.
We have no issues with someone “affirming their blackness” or any other identity they want to affirm. We do take issue when people pay homage to a group that used terrorism and violence to promote racism and revolutionary socialism – a group that murdered dozens of police officers in cold blood.
As you scroll through the list of officers below, look at their photos and read their stories. Among these officers are black men and white men. Rookies and veterans from across the country. Most were killed in unprovoked attacks and ambushes. They all left behind families….
Perhaps Beyonce, someone from the NFL, and someone representing CBS, could read through this list and tell us if they still stand by their decision to honor the Black Panthers during the Super Bowl. Then perhaps they could explain their answers to the surviving wives and children of these fallen officers. ...”

One of my favorite live performances is on the CD I have called “Trio of Doom”. John McLaughlin, Jaco Pastorius, and Tony Williams played a concert in Havana in 1979 that was set up by Carter’s State Department as sort of a cultural experiment.

At this point all of the old revolutionaries are dead, and the average Cubans are just folks who had the misfortune to be born in that s___hole.

Exactly. People do not realize there are thousands of Christians in Cuba, many who converted AFTER Castro.
They rose up in Poland, and East Germany, and Czechoslovakia.

Wonderful third world healthcare ... its free, just remember when in a local hospital to have some friend or relative bring you clean sheets, clothes, and food ... but its free!
Trips to Cuba, often through Canada, were major sources of money for the Communist Party USA over the decades. Groups including Anniversary Tours, something close to Moncada Tours, and some by former Senate staffer Kirby Jones (a hardcore leftist who I believe worked for the Sen. Foreign Relations Committee under Sen. William Fulbright (D-AK).
