As another Memorial Day came and went, Mayor Pete Buttigieg was criticizing President Donald Trump for reportedly considering pardons for several service members accused of war crimes. He called the idea slander against veterans that could only come from somebody who never served. The 37-year-old Democrat mocked the president, saying, I dont have a problem standing up to somebody who was working on Celebrity Apprentice when I was packing my bags for Afghanistan. Mayor Pete also defended NFL national anthem protests, declaring, Trump would get it if he had served. He claimed hed put his life on the line for those rights.
Buttigieg gets away unchallenged with these shots because critical thought on military service is the third rail of journalism. But context matters. Buttigieg did all of six months in 2014 as a reservist deep inside Bagram Airfield, mostly as a personal driver for his boss, locked and loaded inside a Toyota Land Cruiser. It is unlikely he ever ate a cold meal in Afghanistan.

REMF.
Chest thumpin? More like rump humpin.
“... Buttigieg did all of six months in 2014 as a reservist deep inside Bagram Airfield, mostly as a personal driver for his boss, locked and loaded inside a Toyota Land Cruiser...”
A real badass, huh????
Wonder if there is a picture, like Al Gore, of him looking down the barrel of an M16 while attaching a sling ????...LOL
Powder Puff Pete...
I enjoy highly the Left trying to play the draft dodging card... After Bill Clinton... that’s beyond a dead horse.
He would have been run out of the service for being gay in the day that I served.
The guy is a dick.
Who is running the kingdom of South Bend Indiana while Howdy Boody is building his 2% fan base?
Very solid analysis.
He gives a new meaning to “in the rear with the gear”....
LOL...He probably sent that picture out to his buttboys and signed it, “Look how tough I am...”
I liked visiting Bagram. They had ice cream in the chow hall every night, and sold pizza - well, something pizza-like - at the Food Court. Had Internet too.
Nice place to visit.
Well at least he appears better kitted out then the famous “Al Gore on Patrol” picture.
Of course here he’s not outside in this picture, here he’s guarding the bunks & a chair, but he’s well kitted (better then Gore!) to do it!
Buttgiggity served under many officers during his time as cabin boy in the military...
A carrier for 2 pistol mags and its empty. No sidearm.
Carrier for 1 rifle magazine.
Sparkling clean BDUs.
Brand new weapon without a scratch on it.
Iron sights, no optic.
Empty ruck.
Fobbit for sure.
L
Still better kitted out then “Gore on Patrol”!
To be fair, he did risk getting hit by an IED as a driver, but since he was the driver for the general, I’m sure he was not the lead vehicle and/or had other vehicles for protection from ambush.
Me thinks the knee pads are his most important bit of kit.
He may not have driven off base much...
In the end, while its important that a given politician did or didnt serve in the military (it would speak to a certain seasoning in his character, presumably), what is more important is *policy*. What is Trumps military and foreign policy? What is Bs military policy? What is his foreign policy? Is he going to secure the border? Is he going to bring factories back from Bangladesh or China?
It reminds me of the politician who announces that he has gone door to door in his district and talked to *real Americans* about their concerns, and how much he cares about how hard it is to pay mortgages etc etc... So what do you plan to do? Are you going to reindustrialize America? What are you going to do about industries leaving? For most, their ideas are more food stamps, and industries leaving means carbon footprint shifting to the other side of the globe, which they imagine is a good thing. Well send the miners to community college to learn Excel.
I support Trump because of his policies, but more because he fights for them, he doesnt just talk about them. Mayor B served, which is great, but on every single policy he would be a disaster.
