The assumption that these lawyers of “impeccable reputation” are independent and seeking truth is specious nonsense. It is the responsibility of Congress to provide oversight. It is the responsibility of DOJ to investigate crime.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m thinking Dershowitz is an idiot on this.

CONGRESS doesn’t have to do anything. The Office of the Special Counsel was established under DOJ regulations, not through a Federal statute. Therefore, it can be eliminated through executive action by the President or the AG.

Mueller should testify under oath before the House and Senate and face tough questioning from Republicans. At the very least the American people are entitled to know just how he conducted his investigation. What were the premises he made, what techniques were used to question and compromise witnesses, were his investigators biased, did they become aware of wrongdoing that did not fit their narrative, how was he supervised etc. etc. Actually unless someone on the inside comes forward with documents and tapes, all will eventually sink into the ooze of the swamp. The American people will learn nothing.

Sorry — I should clarify this ...

The Office of the Special Counsel is a legitimate Federal office established by Congress for internal DOJ oversight. This is completely different from a Special Counsel appointed within the DOJ to investigate a specific matter as a Federal prosecutor.

The best reason to eliminate the job is that it will be impossible to find somebody who does not have conflicting connections and is qualified to fill the role. Is there a lawyer in DC who is not on record with political contributions? All future “Dirty Bobs” will be dirty. It comes with the proximity.

Then the article is wrong:

“... said Friday it’s time for Congress to get rid of the position altogether.”

I disagree. We should use a special counsel at least one more time — to identify, arrest and convict everyone responsible for the “Russia collusion” business.

Also, what if Harris gets in. Who is going to investigate the horizontal mambo?

It will be used again and again by democrats unless they pay a severe price for this attempted coup, which means they will use it again and again. People who are nasty, vicious, ruin lives and attempt to overthrow a government are not ‘well meaning’ individuals who ‘overstepped’ the bounds because they believed in some personal ‘greater good’ - they are the worst of the worst because they were powerful and used the color of governance.

I think the majority of the America people are sick of this whole Russia collusion charade and want Congress to move on and address real problems like immigration. Impeaching Trump when a two year investigation found nothing is a farce and will be seen as such. Pelosi has already lost control and the hair on fire crazies will push their Trump hate impeachment even though it will like cost the Democrats the 2020 election.

My question is what will happen if Trump is re-elected? I am certain the Russia collusion excuse will not die and the crazies and their media lackeys will go ballistic. Sadly I think it will lead to violence and the soft coup attempted in 2016 will morph into a Bolshevik style attempt at a violent overthrow of a legitimately elected government. I have long maintained that Obama will attempt to create a rival shadow government and could even seek U.N. “peacekeepers” to establish “order” and put him back in the White House. With Trump’s re-election we could see a violent civil war or a Revolution much like in France in 1789. Perhaps Jefferson’s admonition that...”...the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants.” may soon come true.
