Republicans have been successfully leveraging the Supreme Court balance of power as a major campaign issue to ignite their base since the 1980s. For Democrats, the 2020 election may mark the first in modern times that they unite around the high court as a driving force in a presidential election.
Democratic candidates are increasingly advocating "court packing," that is, upping the number of Supreme Court justices to balance the bench -- or ensure a liberal majority. The idea is unlikely to succeed for historical and practical reasons but its resonance on the campaign trail reflects Democrats' new emphasis on the judiciary during the Trump era.
The issue emerges partly from lingering anger over the Republican-led Senate's 2016 stall of President Barack Obama's nominee Merrick Garland, a fire stoked this week when Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said if a Supreme Court vacancy occurred in 2020 election year, he would confirm a Trump nominee.

Watch for regurgitation from the 30s being touted as the latest, greatest, new ideas from the few dozen democrat dogs running for the democrat nomination.
I think Trump is savvy enough to call attention to this issue and use it to his advantage. but how many other politicians will?

What's your point? We might be beyond the tipping point. The nation if we're lucky will crumble. If not all is lost to either civilization-ending war or the tyranny of one sick vision or the other.
Yes, Republicans have their flaws, and I have criticized them for it. But my point was about Democrats wanting to pack the Supreme Court to impose their agenda rather than get the consent of the people. It’s so much easier that way.

But as we know the reason the Court is mentioned at all in campaigns is that leftists have, as usual, corrupted its membership and its mission.
I don’t see what their issue is with McConnell’s statement regarding 2020. Trump will not be a lame duck until 2024. The Biden rule refers to a lame duck president.
