Huawei Technologies founder Ren Zhengfei has moved to quell a rising tide of nationalistic fervour in China against US firms, including Google and Intel, following last weeks blacklisting of the worlds No 2 smartphone maker by the Trump administration.
Speaking to mainland media outlets on Tuesday, Ren cautioned Chinese media and consumers against equating buying decisions with patriotism and called for an end to criticism of US corporations.
In a global setback for Huaweis 5G technology, US President Donald Trump also signed an executive order barring US companies from using telecommunications equipment made by firms posing a national security risk widely seen as referring to Huawei and urging other countries to do the same.
State broadcaster CCTV has responded by airing anti-American Korean war movies while editorials from state media have also made calls to the public to redouble their efforts to make their country strong.
Lets speak out more in favour of US firms. If you are going to attack someone, then aim at the US politicians, Ren said.
Im pragmatic. One cant be deemed patriotic simply for using Huawei products, or the other way round. Huawei is a commercial business. If you like [the product] then use it. Do not politicise it, he said, adding that he and his family continued to use Apple products.
His comments follow a surge in nationalistic sentiment in China in response to a series of moves in recent weeks by the US including an increase in tariffs on US$200 billion worth of Chinese goods which have increasingly focused on concerns about Huawei.
Google, as well as chip-makers Intel, Qualcomm and Xilinx, have agreed to suspend supply to Huawei until further notice, in accordance with the US Commerce Departments directive

What’s the Chinese word for “Taqqiya”?
shrewd man.
If they keep racheting up anti american sentiment—China has a lot more to lose.
Mr. Ren admits that China is national socialist, then. Why don’t they just put the swastika on their red flag?

“Whats the Chinese word for Taqqiya?”
Hah! I was almost feeling bad for Mr Zhengfei until I read your comment. As President Reagan used to say...”Trust but verify.”
Thanks for “woking” me up.
Just remember, at the end of the day, they all work for the Chinese Government.
“Whats the Chinese word for Taqqiya?”
Counter Revolutionary Subversive.
Report to your Kommissar at the nearest railroad station.
Don’t forget warm clothes and a shovel.
There is no indication Huawei has inserted any software back doors as yet and Huawei has offered to let people check whatever proprietary software of theirs that is incorporated into Android, but there is a law in China that compels all Chinese companies to submit to any request by the government to makes changes for ostensible security reason, mean they can order Huawei to insert a backdoor at any time.
I myself have a Huawei phone which works great and cost 1/4 of what apple or samsung charges for one with comparable features. But government phones or those involved in critical infrastructure management should be from a domestic supplier.
I remember 25 years ago I was installing telephone switching stations for the local phone company and all the equipment came from Israel. They could have easily slipped in something to track and record calls which I thought crazy, but allowing China to be privy to such information would be even worse. All critical and classified communications as well as corporate tech secrets should only use domestic suppliers for both hardware and software as far as I am concerned.
Uh-—Ren, ‘ol baby................
Yer Chink friends say you HAVE TO CHEAT, LIE, AND STEAL. It is NOT optional.
It is actually. “the plan”.
