SEE HERE:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Ueberroth

Ueberroth created a committee of over 150 members (mostly business people and entrepreneurs) to generate ideas, opportunities and solve problems.

His aggressive recruiting of sponsors for the 1984 Olympics is credited as the genesis for the current Olympic sponsorship program.

Due to recruiting competitors between the Los Angeles Olympic Committee and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), after 1984 all Olympics in the US had their local organizing committees enter into recruitment agreements with the USOC to jointly recruit sponsors and share revenues.

As I recall, ‘84 Los Angeles Olympic Games worked out OK because most of the sporting venues already existed.

That was before LA reverted to Mexico.

Totally agree with designated locations. Makes no sense to spend time and money on infrastructure for 2 weeks of entertainment. Plus, the hypocrisy of their climate lectures when they just poured tons of cement and flew in thousands of people for no tangible good, just drives me nuts.

I used to have a keen interest in the olympics, but after skier Lindsey Vonn's snide, dismissive and anti-Trump (thus anti-American) comments in the most recent winter olympics, I found myself losing a bit of interest in the games.

Back then Los Angeles was part of the United States, so that certainly helped them.

RE: Back to Greece good idea

You can’t do Winter Olympics in Greece.

Well, I’m beginning to understand why Tiger Woods had to break off with her.

Same thing for the Super Bowl. Put up a stadium in Vegas. Be honest about the betting and let ‘em have it. The city is set up for that stuff.

Vegas already bets on the Super Bowl, and the Super Bowl is held in stadiums that are also used for regular season games.

What would be the advantage of building a special stadium in Vegas?

I look forward to the day that the US encourages Beijing to build its own version of the UN building there, so it can act as host to the UN for the next 50 years.

And then the UN can move to Moscow. 100 years should be more than enough time for us to figure out where they should go after that. Maybe Kabul, or Mogadishu.

My wife and I used to always watch the winter games. Maybe because we live in a hot-as-hell state we enjoy the winter locations. However, there was so much of the anti-Trump anti-American BS that I figured if we watched, we'd be rooting for another country other than USA, which takes a lot of the fun out of it.

It appears that no one wants it anymore. Too much trouble and they don’t ever get the return on that investment.

https://crescentcitysports.com/new-orleans-only-city-bidding-on-2024-super-bowl/

Just with the amount of OT that the cities have to pay the cops, firemen/emt’s, and everyone else. I’m not sure all the parties and small taxes on the hotel rooms makes up for all of that. In Atlanta, last year, the cops were on 12 hr shifts for over 2 weeks. That’s a lot of OT to pay out.

In Vegas, they have all the casino/hotels. Think about where all the big conventions are now. They’re not there just because of the strip clubs, casinos and party scene. Vegas has the space to accommodate everything.

Crips I lost interest years and years ago while watching professional Soviet boxers fighting kids.
