College Board Introduces ‘Adversity Score’ to Control for Privilege in Admissions
National Review ^ | 5-16-2019 | Jack Crowe

The College Board plans to introduce an “adversity score” that will accompany an applicant’s SAT score in order to give college-admissions officers greater insight into how the applicant’s social and economic privilege may have contributed to their academic performance.

The adversity score, which will be made available to colleges but not the students themselves, will reflect 15 different factors including the crime rate and average income level in a student’s neighborhood, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

The new metric is currently being used by 50 colleges and will likely expand to 150 schools this fall.

“There are a number of amazing students who may have scored less [on the SAT] but have accomplished more,” said David Coleman, chief executive of the College Board. “We can’t sit on our hands and ignore the disparities of wealth reflected in the SAT.”

Only good part of this is it is more ammo for me when I argue that a library card with a little ambition offers more knowledge than the average college degree. College offers the credential.

There should be no identifying factors whatsoever. No indication of race, sex, religion.....just test scores.

So rich actors who help their kids cheat face long prison sentences but the College board can cheat on a grand scale without consequences.

Seriously, why would anyone even bother with that test. I think those tests are a waste of money and I hope families begin to boycott the tests andavoid the stress they cause. Community college combined with a gap year is a good option. This College testing industry should die.liberal social engineering will backfire and lead to more gentrification.More No Test schools will be the result and admissions bribing will be accepted to fund more scholarships.

The White kids should just label themselves “black” for purposes of the test.

I guess we could all say "Mixed Race" I think we are all mostly mixed race if we go back far enough. This way you wouldn't be lying. Just don't put down white or Caucasian.

Trust me, this will still basically accomplish the same goal - punish “white/Asian privilege” (intact families, prioritizing education and work) while rewarding the worst behavior.

Whatever the parents’ accomplishments or shortcomings, they can’t be used to punish/reward their children (especially as most are adults when dealing with college).

Even if this was color-blind, it is just another added layer of socialism - and experience indicates that once a freebie is offered, it is permanent.

It will soon be law that employers must adopt this “adversity score” in hiring. Courtesy of the liberty-hating left.

They say diversity is the goal but it’s not. The liberals want to get back at all those Asians who scored higher than they did on the SAT and get back at all those ‘prep school’ guys with the sports cars, the Brooks Brothers sweaters and the prettiest girls.

The White kids should just label themselves “black” for purposes of the test. After all, aren’t we told every day that “race” is just a construct?

So, how many adversity points would Rachel Dolezal get on this test? How about Lizzy Warren?

Oh, I agree that diversity isn’t the real reason. It’s the legal excuse. Marxist goals (which, as you point out, are fueled by jealousy) are the real reasons.

So we’ll subject the disadvantaged to even more disadvantage by enabling/encouraging them to waste their time and money on college indoctrination?

Back in the day when I got a full scholarship to university it was based on my scholastic achievements and academic potential, and only partially on my ability to pay my own way - today under these Adversity standards - coming from a college town with low crime rate and few if any homeless or hungry - I’d have to pay my own way to the nearby community college......

You’d actually get address fraud to improve it. We already have people lying about where they live to get into the better school district or move to the school where their kid is in the top 10. Now they’ll fight to get legal addresses where they’re in the poor part of town.

They can’t legally keep it secret if it determines admission to colleges and is a ranking used against you. Same rules to open disclosure apply to this as to FICO.

At a minimum, everyone has to lie about household income to do well on the SAT.

This is true systematic oppression. Based on demographics and where you live, we will systematically discriminate against you in the name of fairness and morality.
