To some extent, yeah, there’s money to be made in war, sometimes a LOT.
Doesn’t mean most of them don’t have to be fought anyway.

I don’t think Smedley was considering the money to
be made by war profiteering, as much as government
protecting private business interests such as
the Banana growers because of their lobbying
prowess and corruption in congress that allowed
the military to be used in such a way.
The growers did profit from the war but the problem
came from the use of war to protect their interests.
I hope I’m right about this.

I was not Infantry, so I never met nor served under GEN Mattis. Many Marines consider him almost the second coming of Chesty Puller. I think some people are great in combat, but stick them behind a desk and they don't know how to act.
