Is it a crime to publish emails obtained illegally, if you had nothing to do with the illegal collection of those emails? No. It is legal to do so. You cannot hack someone’s computers, but if someone else does, what they release becomes public knowledge.
Why were the emails a problem? Because Hillary was saying one thing in private and a different thing in public. Why is exposing her dishonesty bad? I wouldn’t have batted an eye if Russia had publicized RNC emails - which they tried to do, but the RNC folks weren’t as stupid as Hillary.
