FY 2018's total admissions of 22,491 refugees are the lowest number since the beginning of the resettlement program....Despite lower admissions, the USA resettled more refugees [total 56,000] than any other nation in both 2017 and 2018, remaining the top country for refugee resettlement.

And, as many of you know, I have been a harsh critic of Donald Trump on the immigration issue.
However, whenever Trump scores a clear quantitative achievement on the immigration issue, I always report the good news, too.
In Obama's last year, 80,000 refugees were admitted.
In Trump's last TWO years, the total refugee number came down to 56,000.
That's still much too high, but it is a significant improvement, and I offer my sincere congratulations to Donald Trump for getting this done.
It’s a start.
How many people per month are we actually expelling? Supposedly 70,000 are coming in each month.
I'd like to see the books. If we are balancing the intake by those who are being deported, then OK. Somehow everyone avoids looking at the bottom line of the ledger book. I suspect that we deport almost no one and that we are being played for suckers day after day. Supposedly only 1 in 10 asylum claims is granted. In that case 63,000 failed claimants should be expelled each month.
About 6 months ago, when waiting at the Chicago O’Hare Airport for a connecting flight, I was noticing a fairly large group of people, Asian in appearance, sitting in the gate waiting area where I awaited my connecting flight. They were all carrying U.S.AID bags that looked completely new, like they had just received them. They also appeared to be wearing new clothes. There were a few older people, children and others in the 20-50 age range. Some were falling asleep, like they had just arrived after a long international flight. They appeared to be just normal Asian people with no problems other than sleepiness. There appeared to be some people handling them, accompanying them. I wasn’t familiar with U.S.AID and googled it and saw that it was a UN refugee resettlement-type program. This was a coordinated effort to bring these people to the United States. Their next flight was going to a southern city. So now, whenever I hear about U.S.AID, I know exactly what it is about.
The “Refugee” program is actually a separate distinct issue.
Those are folks who have been “displaced” from their home country and are usually living in United Nation refugee camps.
Trump's other immigration numbers are very depressing....
Legal immigrants - about 1.1 million per year - down just 10% from Obama.
Green Cards and New Citizens - down just 5% from Obama
Total Foreign Work Visas - higher than Obama
ICE Workplace Raids - less than Obama until about 6 months ago
Universal E-Verify and Anchor Babies - no progress at all
Trump's Border Policy from Day One - “Catch and Release”
As to the Border, Trump has enormous power that he refuses to use:
8 U.S.C. §1182(f)
“Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”
In order to stop the Border Chaos, Trump must openly defy the federal injunctions - and risk impeachment.
Trump is never going to that - because he supports massive LEGAL immigration and LEGAL status for illegal immigrants who have not committed serious crimes.
it should come down even more. There aren’t that many major happenings in the world that would generate true refugees.
Most current ‘wars’ are the same-old same-old regional tribal conflicts (30 countries in Africa are still at it to one degree or another, but those populations can move elsewhere in Africa; and a handful of far-east internals like Burma and the PI).
