Stephen Miller reportedly played a central role in the series of events that led to the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Sunday.....that Nielsen's resignation was part of a larger effort by Miller 'to overhaul DHS.'
The announcement of Nielsen's departure follows top officials at the Department of Homeland Security, including Nielsen, being caught off guard by the White Houses sudden move Thursday night to pull the nomination of Ronald Vitiello to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
This unanticipated maneuver, according to the Washington Post, was due in large part to Miller's rise in influence. Miller, along with ICE union head Chris Crane, had complained about Vitiello. Trump told reporters Friday he wanted somebody "tougher" for the top immigration enforcement role.
Miller also defended Trump's controversial emergency declaration to divert funds for a border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border after Congress declined to appropriate the billions of dollars Trump sought for the project.
Despite the hard feelings that reportedly ran rampant behind the scenes, Trump was gracious in announcing Nielsen's departure Sunday.
"Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen will be leaving her position, and I would like to thank her for her service," he tweeted.

Bingo!
What we have going on now though isn't that..it's a 'coordinated invasion' of S. American leaders, Global elitists, and US Demorat Organizations in this country facilitating the caravans to force their way in.
DJT is suuuuuch a good Prez.
But his hires are sooooooo bad.
It’s really shocking.
He’s famous for hiring & firing yet he’s terrible at it when it’s not on a TV show.
He is GREAT but most of the people who work for him suck.
I’m glad he has Steven Miller.
Hive minds! You beat me to it! NO Rick Perry!
Still is frustrating how PDJT has not offered David Clarke a position in his administration.
Oh he’s got a close knit group that understand him an what his goals are for sure....however all politicians have to watch their backs in Washington...and they all know it too! He’s got a limited number of good people and tough people to pick from...unfortunately it’s not good to leave a void either so temporary ‘fills’ are not uncommon for any president when he’s in a shift mode....and they all shift people around every couple years.....have to....the burn out rate of these dept. leadership rolls is fast if your not tough and ready...even for the best of them sometimes.
Why?
I don’t believe Clarke wants one.
Definitely the wrong choice. The position requires someone willing to go into the communities harbouring illegal immigrants and make a show of enforcing the law. When Trump tells them it’s harsh he says too bad sir, it’s the law and then defends his actions and doubles down. If Trump isn’t in the concerned side of the approach in terms of optics then it’s getting close. BTW, this person needs to be willing to take all the heat off of Trump while don this.
I suspect a large part of the problem is that 90% of those qualified for these job are “deep state”, and of the 10% remaining, 95% look at what happens to Trump allies and say “no way” am I subjecting myself to that ****. That leaves very few good choices.
Caww’s comments also apply.
Yes indeed...good post.
The source for this article is the Washington Examiner, not the Washington comPost.
Oops. Disregard my previous post. Now I see why you cited WaPo.
AMEN. And a huge Hell NO to Rick Perry!
I was listening to Levin on Fox tonight and his journalist guest.... which was a fascinating expose’ on ‘how’ the media network journalists work together with the ‘media matters’ group as the head and ‘deep state’ politicians in their work to orchestrate together the sole purpose of taking down Trump and creating the illusions they do to undermine his presidency.
It was said 95% of media is ‘set’ with the same agenda as all these entities....she called these journalists today “propaganda ‘operatives”...and that there 24/7 job is to pound on anyone who threatens the lefts agenda.
It was a worthy listen and I generally don’t listen to Levin.
Thanks - I probably should look for a link to the audio.
I find Levin’s analysis is very often quite good, I just can’t take for long his “They’re Coming To Take Me Away” style histrionics.
Regarding my last comment, “even so” I still wonder about Nielsen’s appointment, given her history. Immigration is Trump’s signature issue - he HAS to get it mostly right.
Anybody know if Crane is qualified?
Bttt
