By the end of around December of 2020 the total amount of money that we will have put in the ground in the last couple of years will be about 450 miles, that's probably about $8 billion, a total of about 33 different projects." US Army Corps of Engineers Commanding General and Chief of Engineers Todd Semonite said during a roundtable discussion on immigration with President Donald Trump.

They are working down a well studied priority list, so those 450 miles will be the 450 most important/effective miles.
So this year and next year, he expects to build about 11 times as many miles, as was built so far.
We are heading off to the races for building barrier.
Go, Trump!
Construction should be going , at top speed , 24/7 .
Months , not years to completion . No weekends , no unions .
In addition ; President Trump should move , immediately , to stand up a Federally deputized National Civilian Volunteer Militia . The CVM . To back up and augment the DoD personnel and LEO’s and to also serve as a national Neighborhood watch force .
No age limits , U.S. citizenship and a fair degree of physical ability to walk , drive , shoot and talk required .
Give CVM volunteers major tax breaks for serving . No pay . Allow them to bring & deploy their own arms .
What this guys been building giant skyscrapers in Manhattan his entire life
thats trying to build 100 story building with concrete trucks ,plumbing ,electrical wiring , bureaucrats , all kinds of nonsense day in and day out for years
this is trying to build a simple 30 foot fence in the middle of freaking nowhere with nobody to complain -no unions -no traffic - nothing - this is a walk in the park. And our great and wonderful president Donald J Trump knows it. Like a book
Watch for yourselves.
Our President’s comments on the matter are quite interesting!

Trump Immigration and border security roundtable
Trying to build a...fence... with nobody to complain...
Is that a joke?
If you had a military engineering team (300 guys), with ready-made fencing, I would think you could easily do a mile a day.
Just think. If the wall was started 20 years ago it would have been long done. What has been built or in some places propped up,is a joke and an insult to the quality and craftsmanship of what America is capable of and what Americans deserve.
How much of that is new fence as opposed to repair and replacement/improvement of old fence?
It’s a start. Rather than prioritizing though, I’d rather see President Trump just build the entire wall. We don’t need priorities, not when America’s globalist enemies will just bus undocumented democrats to open sections of the border, we need a barrier that is impractical for illegals and other invaders to cross.
Has anyone questioned the potential conspiracy between the Dems and foreign powers (Russia?) or individuals (Soros!) to fund the passive/aggressive assaults on our sovereignty being conducted in the name of “humanty”.
Trying to get the real answer to that question is like asking where the Ark of the Covenant is located.
The border dance. Have we had a pol in actual power who hasn’t performed it for us in the last half century?
Trump claims there is no difference in his mind between new and replacement fence—so as to completely avoid the answer.
No use pretending the GOP isn’t in on it just as well.
Fences will never work anyway.
Offer up free cheese to rats and they will find a way in. The only solution is to fine and jail anyone who hires illegals to the point it is not profitable to hire them. The cut off all aid of any kind.
This will never happen. Besides the guberment needs the criminals so they can say we need the guberment to protect us.
Exactly. Build the wall. Not so tough. And the idea that the majority of the border doesn’t need a wall is insane.
Agree that we have to cut off the financial incentives. That includes work AND welfare freebies.
Let's state something we all know is true: the great majority of these Invaders go on Food Stamps, Section 8 Housing, Social Security for Refugees, Medicaid, ObamaCare, TANF, and all the rest. And, the great majority of them have little to no real job skills, can't speak English, are functionally illiterate, and have (at best) an education at the 8th grade level if they are lucky.
This is the border fence in Israel.
When it was completed, they saw a 90%+ drop in terrorist attacks.
“If the wall was started 20 years ago it would have been long done.”
It was started in earnest in 2006, but as soon as the Obama Administration came in (Jan 2009), they put the brakes on it.
When President Trump came in, the Republican Congress added $1.375 billion per year to the 10 year baseline budget for barrier building (and some more for technology programs), to build the 1,100 miles of barrier that Border Patrol has long known they need - but over ten years.
The President, as well as us here, know that Democrats will sabotage that program first chance they get, so he is front loading it.
Also, the country probably doesn’t have ten years at these rates, before immigration flips Texas or Florida Red, and gives the left a lock on the Presidency.
If President Trump gets 450 miles of his strong style of wall system built, where it is needed most, it is going to greatly impede uncontrolled migration. With a second term (and a Republican majority) he can achieve full operational control of the border.
“How much of that is new fence as opposed to repair and replacement/improvement of old fence?”
They have not made their priority list public, so we don’t know.
The same geography that channelized immigration flows in the past, and caused the earlier barriers to go up, is still there. Modern highways often follow the routes of old roads, and even earlier trails, for similar reasons. So from what we have seen so far, it seems likely that most of the first 450 miles will be replacement miles.
The big exception is where the last round of barrier building got bogged down, and failed to build, even though it was badly needed. That is mainly the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, and around Laredo (the biggest border city without a barrier). Those areas are tough and expensive to build because of the flood plain of the river and the hurricanes they get (as well as private property issues). They need about 150 miles.
The rest is likely to be “replacement” - even though building massive 30 foot bollards with high speed patrol road, stadium lighting, complete camera surveillance and high tech alarm systems, it lieu of triple strand barbed wire, is disparaged as “repair or replacement”.
“Rather than prioritizing though, Id rather see President Trump just build the entire wall.”
That was the plan, if the Democrats would cut a big immigration deal, that provided a $25 billion lump sum up front. They refused.
Instead, $1.375 billion per year, for ten years, was added to the baseline budget for barrier building. For this year, that is designated to build 55 miles. Given so little to work with, it was very important to prioritize.
The President has gone to great lengths to get more money, to accelerate the program. By doing that, and by prioritizing the most important miles first, he can block where more than 3/4 of the illegals enter the Country - in his first term.
