Ocasio-Cortez mocks Trump’s tax return response: ‘We didn’t ask you’
NY Post ^ | April 3, 2019 | Kenneth Garger

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took a shot at President Trump’s response to Monday’s congressional request for his tax returns, tweeting “we didn’t ask you.”

The twitter jab from the freshman congresswoman came hours after the House Ways and Means Committee asked the IRS to release Trump’s 2013 through 2018 tax returns.

When Trump was later asked about the formal congressional request, he told reporters, “until such time as I’m not under audit, I would not be inclined to do it.”

Ocasio-Cortez mockingly recapped the exchange on Twitter.

“Congress: ‘We’re going to need a copy of the President’s tax returns from 2013-2018,’” read the first part of her tweet.

“No, I’m ‘under audit,” she then wrote, reenacting Trump’s reply.

She finished the tweet with a reminder to Trump, saying “we didn’t ask you.”

He was either the full owner or 50% owner of an architectural firm

Hate to break it to you, but the liquidation value of an architectural firm is about 0$. Some drafting tables, printers and software licenses that need to be upgraded to get the latest version, a flower pot or two and some cardboard models. Probably the most valuable thing is the large scale printer.

here is Federal Law that says the IRS must comply

But Trump's lawyers can intervene as the real party in interest.

A very true observation. And while she has many people “cowed”, she has few real friends who aren’t just pursuing political agendas of their own. The day will come when she painfully realizes this.

It doesn't appear that Trump knew at the time of his response yesterday that congress went around him to request the tax returns. AOC is right, unfortunately.

Trump tax return response.

I would say she could use a lecture on the importance of showing respect to the president of the United States but where would she get an example of that from? She sure doesn’t see it being played out by any democrat in Congress.

Sure - everyone complains about whoever is president and what he’s doing but I don’t remember the outright disrespect that this bimbo shows without batting an eyelash. It really bothers me. She’s obviously run off at the mouth since she learned to talk and no one ever set any boundaries for her.

I’ve heard Geraldo twice mention he has two grandchildren who live in her district and he loves her “exuberance” and “speaking truth to power”.

As far as I’m concerned she’s just an immature female who has never grown much beyond the behavior of a 5th grader.

Of course Trump knew. Watch the clip you posted. THE REPORTER TOLD HIM WHEN HE ASKED THE QUESTION.

I figured she was pretty petite, based on the relative size of her eyes.

But Trump's lawyers can intervene as the real party in interest.

The most that Trump's lawyers can do is insist that the tax returns only be view in closed executive session.

6103(f)(1):

(f) Disclosure to Committees of Congress

(1) Committee on Ways and Means, Committee on Finance, and Joint Committee on Taxation

Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives, the chairman of the Committee on Finance of the Senate, or the chairman of the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure.

Hillary Clinton was “America’s Ex-Wife.” AOC is still young enough to be “America’s CRAZY Ex-Girlfriend.”

Fixed it for you

I don’t think he comprehended. Congress didn’t ask him so it has to be a misstatement for him to say that he will decline. He is speaking as if they asked him.

I suspect a strong case could be made that anyone demanding to see a tax return only for the purpose of attacking a political opponent is in violation of the law. A reasonable argument would be:

“Suppose the President demanded to see the full tax return of every Democrat in Congress? Suppose the House Committee demanded to see the full tax return of every Republican? The only reason that was not prohibited in the text of the law is that no one at the time believed such evil was possible!”

I suspect even a lot of liberal courts would take that seriously. And if Trump loses in court, he should turn around and take a look at the tax returns from every high ranking Democrat. Including the Clinton Foundation!

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/16/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-has-less-than-7000-dollars-saved.html

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 29-year-old Democrat who will represent the 14th Congressional District of New York, is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress and until recently worked in food service. She currently has less than $7,000 in savings, according to her communications director.

Her finances became a talking point after she mentioned to The New York Times that she’s struggling to afford an apartment in Washington D.C., where the median rent, $2,700, is twice the national median. Her claims came under fire this week after some news outlets publicized a financial disclosure filed in April that showed she had as much as $15,000 in savings, and more in checking.

In the disclosure, which uses ranges rather than exact amounts, Ocasio-Cortez reported that she had:

$15,000-$50,000 in a checking account
$1,001-$15,000 in a savings account
$1,001-$15,000 in a 401(k)

Her wages in 2017 came to about $26,600, according to the 2018 disclosure, and she’s still paying off $15,000-$50,000 in student loan debt.

The 2018 race took its toll on her finances, Corbin Trent, director of communications for Ocasio-Cortez, tells CNBC Make It. “She’s had to dip into her savings since that was filed. She’s down to well below $7,000 now” in that account, and the amount in her 401(k) hasn’t changed as she has not been contributing to it in recent months while she has been living off of her savings. Trent said he was unable to comment on her current checking account balance.

“Some of the money she has was obviously just saved while she was working, but some of it also came from when her parents sold the house. After her dad passed away, her mom gave her some of that money,” Trent says.

Her father, who died in 2012, was a small business owner, and her mother, originally from Puerto Rico, cleaned houses, according to the Ocasio-Cortez campaign. The family sold its house in Yorktown in 2016 for $355,000.

Since Congress didn’t ask him directly, the reporter’s question was silly and irrelevant.
