House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, Democrat of Maryland, will be sending a letter to the White House Monday saying the committee has interviewed a whistleblower about concerns with the security clearance process at the White House and that it will begin authorizing subpoenas beginning at the Oversight Committee's business meeting on Tuesday. Read Cummings' letter here:
...The letter says the committee conducted a "detailed, on-the-record interview" with whistleblower Tricia Newbold, an adjudications manager in the Personnel Security Office. She has worked as a career employee for the Executive Office of the President for 18 years under Democratic and Republican administrations. Newbold told the committee that "she and other career officials adjudicated denials of dozens of applications for security clearances that were later overturned," the letter says, and said that she was targeted for retaliation after declining to grant security clearances based on longstanding national security protocols.

NOTHINGBURGER!
True. Especially if any of those names turn out to be Arabic in nature and Muslim specifically. Ol’ Elijah will drop it like a hot rock.
What about whistleblower Gary Aldrich during the clinton administration? He was basically told to go pound salt and uninvited from multiple TV interviews.
The prez IS the "National Command Authority" responsible for U.S. security and the ultimate arbiter of classification.
I’m OK with this investigation, but it seems awfully convenient that the civil servant started collecting detailed information in 2018. I’m sure that Huma Abedein, Valeria Jarrett, and Ben Rhodes had no problems with their clearance adjudications that anyone can find or recall.
You really want to go there?
They can put Mueller in charge... yup-that’l work
House members, beginning with the 104th Congress, do have to take a secrecy oath. Members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence the committee with oversight over intelligence agencies including the CIA and NSA have a separate oath, commensurate with their unique access to sensitive information. Again, these oaths take the way of a public pledge, vice the arduous security-clearance process, complete with SF86, undertaken by the average security-cleared professional.
House and Senate staff members with a need to access classified information are required to obtain security clearances. The Office of Senate Security and Office of House Security, respectively, have oversight over the security clearance process for congressional staffers, and background investigations are conducted by the FBI.
With increased congressional oversight of sensitive national security issues and more scrutiny on both the issues and need for access the congressional security clearance procedures have come under scrutiny in recent years. An August 2011 CRS report proposed mandating security clearances for all members of congress. Despite several proposals and wrangling on both the legislative and executive sides (due to accusations of leaked information coming from both branches), requirements for members of congress or elected officials to obtain security clearances have never been passed.
Opponents of requiring security clearances argue the process could compromise the independence of legislators. More likely, it would add increased scrutiny on members that may prove politically, if not personally, harmful. Given the number of sex scandals and other congressional debauchery, one could argue a fair number of members of congress may have blackmail problems, and a lot to lose in the event of an unfavorable clearance decision.
Why is it 25 and not 17? Or 26? Or 31?
Welcome to every president.
All we really need to know is that the president can grant access to anyone he wishes.
It’s also important to know clearances can be denied/delayed for some picayune reasons if a legalistically minded person wishes to over interpret issues of finance, association, behavior or family.
LOL! If traditional American security clearances still meant much of anything, Valerie Jarrett couldnt get in the White House on a tour, and Barq Obama could never have met the standard to run for office.
My suspicion is that it will end up biting ex _resident Obuttmunch much worse than it will bite President Trump
Maybe ee cummings can have them all audited, and leak their tax returns, like he normally does.
Stop and Delay Cummings adds Destroy Trump to his handle ,LOL
I've come to the conclusion that every presidential candidate should be able to pass a Yankee White background check considering all they have access to and are responsible for.
“President Trump is going to need a separate office dedicated to all the Rats are going to demand.”
This is precisely why Trump should move full steam ahead with investigations of the Obama people. The rats are obviously not going to let up on Trump so he should show them no mercy and have his DOJ prosecute every last one of the traitorous SOBs.
Whistleblower will report on Obama and Clinton administration security clearance violations on the 7th of NEVER.
It was hand-delivered to him while he was on Hajj, prostrating himself in front of the Kaaba at Mecca.
