I voted for McCain in 2008 (and cut me some slack, that was my first election).
And just because I’m willing to acknowledge he’s not nearly as bad as Jane Fonda or John Kerry DOESN’T mean that I’m a McCain fanboy. In fact, if you want my personal opinion, I was flat out disappointed that he just conceded the race to Obama, not to mention am DEFINITELY disgusted that he basically destroyed any possible chance at undoing Obamacare as his last act in life.
And BTW, I never even served in a war, let alone Vietnam (and for the record, I wasn’t even BORN at the time the Vietnam War came and went). However, had I been a veteran like you, and I were to hate McCain for ditching POWs, guess what? I’d ALSO make darn sure to hate Eisenhower, FDR, JFK, and literally every single dang president who ditched POWs from any war under ANY capacity, possibly even count George Washington for abandoning Thomas Paine. I’m THAT black and white regarding these sorts of things, and in fact, I’d be so consumed with hatred for those presidents for ditching POWs, I’d probably flat out turn into a misanthrope as a result. So yeah, you REALLY don’t want me to start hating on John McCain right now, ESPECIALLY when you’re unwilling to go to that logical conclusion of hating Eisenhower for abandonment of POWs (either you condemn ALL of them, or none of them. Time is irrelevant, certainly it’s irrelevant under God’s laws, that is).
And make no mistake, I’m DEFINITELY angered and disappointed that McCain ditched POWs, as I ought to be with ANY president who does so. But I am NOT willing to go as far as to call it treason, not unless I am to apply that label to EVERY war-time president. And BTW, I’d say that even if I WERE a veteran (which, again, I am not).
