New Zealand prime minister: We’re banning all “military-style” semiautomatic weapons and assault rifles
It’s not just how comprehensive the ban is that makes it draconian, notes Philip Klein, it’s the fact that it’s coming straight from the top, by virtual decree of the prime minister and her cabinet. Supporters note that New Zealand’s parliament stands foursquare behind her, with even the major opposition party in favor of the ban, but it’s difficult politically for the opposition to get crosswise with a country’s leader after a major terror attack. 9/11 gave us the Patriot Act and the Iraq war, two initiatives that drew plenty of Democratic support if only because the minority party didn’t want to seem “soft” on malefactors. Now here’s Jacinda Ardern yanking broad classes of weapons out of the public’s hands with no constitutional provisions to stop her and little political will in the legislature, for whatever reason.

Guess that’s what happens to those whose rights originate from men.
It’s not so much that the law is draconian, it is simply incoherent. When was the last time someone in that country was killed by such a firearm prior to that attack? And it is now coming out that the perpetrator acquired that sort of firearm with a licence that was allegedly given to him without having an interview done by the police as required by law there and that he gave online chat room friends as references.
They are making sure that nobody can shoot back.
And New Zealand joins the other nations that threw away freedom in the interest of “just doing something”.

Screw New Zealand. If they fell into the ocean tomorrow what would we miss?

At the same time they are banning all information that does not toe the desires of the that nations leaders. They are banning ISP’s, and now I hear that they are banning books as well. They are also pushing Islam.
