Trump should stop attacking and lying about McCain
Washington Examiner ^ | March 20, 2019 10:00 AM | Quin Hillyer

One can spend several days trying not to overreact to President Trump’s latest, unprovoked tweetstorm against the late Sen. John McCain R-Ariz., yet still conclude that there is something sick and twisted about Trump’s obsession with the singular American hero Trump disparages.

Tom Rogan already in these pages has eloquently explained why, fake heel spurs or no fake heel spurs, Trump could never be fit to wear McCain’s discarded shoes. And lawyer George Conway, husband of top Trump aide Kellyanne Conway, has presented a persuasive case that Trump’s fulminations about McCain and other bizarre eruptions are signs of a personality disorder.

What remains, though, is a reminder that on facts as well as fulminations, Trump’s flip-out against McCain is full of falsehoods.

First, as many others have noted, Trump repeatedly accused McCain of trying to spread the so-called “Steele dossier” as a way to block Trump’s election, but the undisputed evidence shows McCain didn’t even become aware of the dossier until after Election Day. (Plus, McCain did exactly what a senator should do when provided such material: He turned it over to the FBI, without prejudice. But that’s beside the point about Trump’s dishonesty.)

What has not been as adequately refuted is Trump’s allegation that McCain voted against a bill to “repeal and replace” Obamacare, and that McCain’s vote was a big surprise. Neither element of that story is true.

First, by the time a healthcare bill finally reached a vote in the Senate, it was in no way, shape or form a “repeal and replace” bill. In reality, it was a shell of a bill known as “skinny repeal,” which did next to nothing other than keep...

McCain tried to take Trump out. He personally took the dossier to Comey after sending his aide to London to pick it up. His assistant, Kramer, then spread the dossier to 13 media outlets and to the State Department.

Two hours before McCain voted on Obamacare Trump spoke to him on the phone and McCain assured him that he would vote for repeal. Mike Pence met face to face with McCain an hour before the vote and McCain promised he would vote for repeal. He lied and voted against repeal giving Trump no opportunity to try to find someone else to vote for repeal.

Trump approved the lavish funeral arrangements for McCain that were quasi Presidential. The McCain family never thanked him and instead, used the funeral to attack Trump.

I can understand completely the intense dislike Trump has for McCain who was part of the attempted coup to take out a sitting President. Trump is far more restrained than I would be. The continuing attacks and investigations resulting from a hoax perpetrated by Hillary, Deep State, and Obama for over two years would drive me insane.

Good post. TUIB, educate yourself.

The Lowdown on McCain’s Obamacare Vote

The Rush Limbaugh Show ^ | 20 Mar 2019 | Rush Limbaugh
Posted on 3/21/2019, 6:24:33 AM by Alas Babylon!

RUSH: Trump and McCain. This issue continues to expand and grow, and I’m gonna cut through all of the Twitter clutter and give you the nub of what’s going on here. Yesterday in a series of tweets, President Trump told the story of how John McCain screwed over the entire country when he failed to vote to get rid of Obamacare, the repeal and replace of Obamacare. He said that it was a last-minute thing after many promises that he would vote with the White House.

This is Trump telling people that they had assurances upon assurances from Senator McCain that he was gonna vote to repeal and replace Obamacare. Now, Jim Acosta, CNN, found a, quote-unquote, “source” who told him that that wasn’t true. Some former aide to McCain told Acosta that Trump is lying. McCain never promised the White House he was gonna vote to repeal and replace Obamacare. So Acosta’s running this all over Twitter, and — I don’t know — probably put it on the air at CNN, basically saying he’s got a source (an unnamed McCain aide) claiming that Trump is lying about this.

Well, Matt Schlapp and his wife Mercedes… Mercedes is in the communications shop of the White House. Matt Schlapp runs CPAC. At the time, Matt Schlapp was the key White House guy counting votes on this issue. Every president, every White House, every West Wing has a guy that stays in touch with Capitol Hill — a liaison — that keeps the West Wing informed on the status of legislation the White House is interested in, kind of like a presidential whip. Not out there actually whipping votes, but he is the vote-counter.

He’s in touch with the whips. He’s in touch with the Republican leaders in the Senate and the House, and he knows how who is going to vote, and it’s up to him to count the votes, and he reports to the president what the latest is. Matt Schlapp told a reporter that somebody might want to fact-check what Jimmy Acosta is saying, because Matt Schlapp says that what Acosta tweeted isn’t true. Matt Schlapp said, “McCain met with me in my office and pledged to support every version of repeal and replace and said he would lead the charge.

“Everybody was worried he would flip-flop when it mattered, and he did. He did on the flight to Washington.” Schlapp says, “Acosta, I was tracking Senator McCain up until the vote, and everyone was told that he was solid on his vote against Obamacare, but all of us knew that McCain was unpredictable. None of us, including the president, are lying about this.” So Matt Schlapp is putting his reputation out there, assuring Acosta that whoever is talking to him is telling him falsehoods.

That McCain had assured the White House over and over again he was gonna vote to repeal and replace, but that they always knew he could change his mind because he was McCain. So on the flight to Washington is when Schlapp found out McCain had changed his mind (if he was actually ever be truthful with him in the first place) about the intent of his vote. Now, of course this doesn’t satisfy Acosta. Acosta thinks everybody but him is lying and so forth. So given all of this, you can understand why Trump and Matt Schlapp and everybody else in the West Wing would be livid.

McCain, according to them, led them to believe he was a solid vote to repeal and replace Obamacare. He had campaigned on it! He had made a big deal out of how bad he thought Obamacare was. But then he comes in and at the moment of truth, he’s the last vote, gives his famous thumbs down, and kills the repeal. And Trump feels like he was lied to, misled, and what have you. So now there’s all kinds of news stories about the feud between Trump and McCain.

Washington Post: “‘The McCain Family Deserves Better,’ Republican Senator Says as Trump Continues to Lash Out.” “The McCain Family Deserves Better.” From TheHill.com: “Anderson Cooper Blasts Trump Over McCain Attacks: ‘He’s Punching a Person Who is Dead.‘” This is from CNN, by the way, running and promoting a documentary called Tricky Dick. Do you know why they’re doing that? Do you know what MSNBC is doing? (interruption)

Snerdley, you may not know this. Do you know that MSNBC on Saturday and Sunday — like from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. — is running never-ending repeats of All the President’s Men? (interruption) Oh, yeah. They’re running the movie of how Woodward and Bernstein got rid of Nixon. They run this so that their audience can get set up for the impeachment of Trump, and now CNN has got this series called Tricky Dick, which is designed to get their audience prepared and set up for the impeachment of Trump.

Romney has knocked Trump over his McCain criticism. (impression) “How dare you criticize an American war hero who died? How dare you do this?” and then, not to be outdone, James Clyburn of the Congressional Black Caucasians has chimed in that “Trump and His Family Are ‘Greatest Threats to Democracy of My Lifetime.’” Trump and his family are the modern incarnation of — wait for it — Adolf Hitler.

I’m sorry for your pain. I’m glad my President tells the truth about the living & the dead rather than giving deference and pretense. POTUS gives the benefit of the doubt, praises and acclaims accomplishments right & left. He appreciates people for their efforts.

John McCain was a creep, to his wife, to the Veterans, to his fellow soldiers, to his constituents & the American people. He welshed on his deals, abandoned principles & promises for personal gain. He was a vindictive man. He tried to take down President Trump during the election season and at every chance afterwards. He connived with the left and enabled them to get their fake paid for dossier credence with the FBI. Not to mention his visits to terrorists and posing for pictures with them.

My President has been very restrained & was magnanimous in arranging McCain’s funeral. He is not gelded so he tells the truth, I don’t care for the man either.

I have worked with a number of Navy aviators in the past and none of hem had a good thing to say about McCain. The amateur psychological assessment from the Navy aviator “hall file” on McCain ‘desperately wanted to match or out do his father and grandfather but too spoiled and entitled to actually do it’.

For the masses, probably. There was an old saying regarding parenting and when to draw the line with your kids.

“Choose your Battles”

I think a little bit of that factors in here. Or at least it should.

That you George?

There are many, many examples of mclame’s serious character flaws...including his referring to his wife in public as a “cunt”. Most importantly, mclame was an active participant in the distribution of the fake/hoax “dossier” in an attempt to overthrow the duly and legally elected President of the United States. He was/is a traitor. He deserves NO respect and no consideration.

Before someone asks, they all were way too young to have ever served with McCain or be a contemporary. So they were repeating what they had heard - “hall file”.

Remember he was thoroughly disliked by his Senate colleagues!

So grow up means you are a hypocrite? Were you never taught than if you allow something wrong to be said in your presence you assent to it?
I value POTUS’ honesty far above the typical politicians suave superficial, above it, all bluster.

We know about the lying and POS McCain is a TRAITOR to this country and I hope Pres. Trump continues to SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS. McStain was right in the MIDDLE of the coup to take down POTUS because he is DEEP STATE EVIL along with wifey poo and the dumpy daughter. I wonder if anyone checked the coffin to see if he was really in there.

I LOVE IT when POTUS says things that get the whiney NeverTrumpers whining and looking like babies that need some butt hurt salve.

They knew the dossier was garbage within a couple of weeks, yet you seem okay with a two year circus of media leaks and attempt to drive down Trump’s poll numbers. As far as McCain, Benedict Arnold was a hero until he wasn’t.

So then what?

You can’t believe “every leftist” will be gone. Never happen. We’d have to eliminate all teachers, college professors and I don’t know how many generations of students in the system now. Our way or nothing sounds a bit too close to sharia.

So what’s your solution? I’m not meaning to be snarky. I’m genuinely curious to hear what you think. Thanks.

You know, I think W had good intentions in a lot of what he did. Maybe not the brightest bulb in the box and he definitely listened too much to the wrong people. But I believe he did what he thought was right. History will judge him. Iraq will stain him. But that said, a small percentage of Bush would do Trump well.

Do you think you would have thanked him if he authorized a state funeral for your family member? Or would you have been so bitter & crass to have just taken it as your due.

POTUS was just making a comment that the family didn’t thank him they just continued to malign him. It says nothing about POTUS other than he was a gentleman but it says a lot about the McCains. You seem more upset about the truth being told than about the treasonous behavior of McCain. Pile on the truth teller that’ll improve America.

Don’t really care what you think about it. The wholehold don’t speak ill of the dead thing is hypocritical. Is Hitler off limits? Stalin? Somebody who murdered 50 people and then killed themselves?

Trump has every right to call out McCain dead or alive McCain was committing outright sedition and treason and doing it in a fraudulent fashion. Not to mention how he sold out his constituents and its own professed political beliefs on Obamacare. Trump has every right to call him out for as long as he wants for all that McCain did to Trump and his family. It’s a you problem that you’re such a baby about it and I suspect you have another agenda. Regardless Trump will be re-elected so you will have four more years to bitch and moan about his methods

>>It is in holding mode, and when he is gone they are going to amp it up as high as it will go.

We denied them. We must be taught.

SCOTUS isn’t going to save us. SCOTUS is part of the problem.

We are either going to be free, or we are not.

And we cannot be free as long as even a single leftist is in this country, because that leftist will then begin infecting others with his or her madness.

We know what the wage freedom is, and that wage is payable more than once.
