The FBI charged a list of well-heeled parents, including actors Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, with fraud on March 12. Their alleged goal: to get their kids into top schools, including Yale and Stanford. The public reactions ranged from outrage to cynicism. The outrage: These parents think they can buy their kids anything. The cynicism: These parents could have done the same thing legally by charitably funding a new building or two. All this aside, the admissions scandal is an opportunity to separate the lofty mythology of college from the sordid reality. Despite the grand aspirations that students avow on their admission essays, their overriding goal is not enlightenment, but status.

A college degree now is like a high school degree 50 years ago.
I saw/see many jobs that require college degrees with no real major needed.
And I cut most classes too as they were boring and my girlfriend took notes :)
Now we’re going to lie and say it was ever about learning first?
Maybe among a few geeks. That is about it.
Though I’m sure your lectures were the exception to the boring ones. You likely loved what you taught. That is great. :)
a desire for unearned and undeserved greatness = leftard justice and dishonesty
I can’t speak to Hillsdale College in 2019.
When I lived in Hillsdale 25 yrs. ago there were several scandals unfolding. One involved the university prevailing on local authorities to cover-up the drug activities of some children of the VERY rich and powerful who were students there.
I fully realize I am just about alone in this but for decades I have been a very serious freeper and paid careful attention to what has been going on with a firm conviction we could and would eventually act to save Our Country. This year I gave up Hope for Lent and have been much happier. As I look at the US today there isnt much I would lift a finger to save. Now my hope is for what comes after and the day seems to be approaching rapidly.
IIRC our founders felt there were only two professions that required real education. Preachers and Lawyers. How I wish they had given that just a little more thought.
Absolutely not! Like Chelsea Clinton, I’m sure she was a National Merit Scholar; mom’s obviously a certifiable genius... /S
Liz Warren’s daughter graduated from Brown. How did she get in?
Yep...what you wrote. The colleges and the warped student loan system.
“Theres a Larger Lie Beyond the College Admissions Bribery Case”
You can Bet on it.
I no longer recognize the country I grew up in. The steady erosion of values in this once great country has been going on for several decades and is being accelerated by the nation’s rapidly changing demographics and deteriorating culture. As far a what comes noxt I think one of two things will happen: (1) because of our out of control spending we will eventually witness an economic crisis of unprecedented proportions and/or (2) we will experience a grave military incident jolts people back into reality. In either case intense fears like this have a way of causing people to reassess their views and lifestyle. Life altering moments, if you will. Just my two cents.
IMO, Singer is far from the only individual involved in this lucrative scam. We first have to find who the "fixer" is that handles the political class.....before he/she is elliminated.
I think McDonalds Hamburger University has more integrity then most of the “elite” schools nowadays...
I'm thinking of printing up T-shirts that says...
NEVER GIVE UP!
I FLUNED OUT OF HAMBERGER UNIVERSITY
SO....
I INVESTED MY MONEY AND GOT A DEGREE FROM..
(INSERT NAME OF ELITE SCHOOL HERE)... NOW LOOK AT ME!
When I used to live in L.A., USC was termed the University of Second Choice.
LOL, they're still paying the price for their students' reaction to the OJ verdict.
I hear you but I suspect it will be your 1 AND 2 simultaneously. Coupled by the fact that people like you and I who would have once been the folks the USA absolutely had to have the support of no longer support the hideous thing it has become. We had so much hope that perhaps the ballot box might have saved us but it should be pretty clear to anyone paying attention Trump is barely saving himself.
That's too easy...she applied as a Native American...lol.
A friend’s daughter went to Yale. I asked her if Yale was hard and she said “It was hard to get in”.
Speaking of the ballot box, the way things are going, our country’s future may soon be determined by people who aren’t legally here, convicted criminals, and adolescent voters. All of them, with no skin in the game, will decide our fate. How totally crazy is that?
Universities haven’t had integrity for decades. Back in the 70s, in my senior year, my state university brought in a ton of Iranian students. They hated being here and wouldn’t do their class work if they even bothered showing up. The profs were told to pass them no matter what. Problem was, when so many grading on a bell curve, that caused the rest of us US students to have major drops in GPAs.
Legacy students also steal desks. Just because daddy went there, doesn’t mean junior should.
