How Hollywood elites cheated to get their kids into college

In the fall of 2017, William Rick Singer, college admission fraudster for the rich and famous, sat in the Los Angeles home of actors William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman and laid out a plan to scam their oldest daughter into college, according to a federal indictment released Tuesday.

It was what Singer often told parents was “the side door” to college and he did not lack for what federal prosecutors called “a catalog of wealth and privilege” willing to pay for entrance. That includes actresses Huffman ("Desperate Housewives") and Lori Loughlin ("Full House"), each of whom was indicted by the U.S. Attorney in Boston Tuesday on conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services fraud.

Below is a detailed account, culled from the indictments, on what Huffman, Loughlin and Loughlin’s husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, the case’s most prominent names, are charged with doing in what the feds call a widespread scam that allowed the wealthy to cheat the less fortunate out of elite college admission slots.

I have to say, that if I had the money I would do the same. There are only so many spots available, and unless your kid is an academic superstar with sports and community service on their CV too, how to get in. And just about forget it if you’re Asian.

These elite schools are modern day version of Finishing Schools. Unless you are a STEM major you do not learn anything it is all about networking and getting the credential.

Not surprised

Hey, we knew way back in the 70s that the R & F were all for “affirmative action” . . .

Just as long as “Lil Darlins” weren’t affected

The hypocrisy from Hollywood can be smelled throughout the hemisphere.

Jail. Same law for rich celebrities as for non-privileged ordinary people.

I feel so bad for these parents. They weren’t lucky enough to have a POS unqualified affirmative action quota admission child.

You are saying, if you had money, you would cheat/bribe to get your kid into a college he or she could not otherwise get into?

Why not just have the kid (1) work harder and/or (2) go to a school that is in keeping with his/her abilities?

Huffman came from immense wealth from guns....great-grandfather Gershom Moore Peters (1843–1919), founded the Peters Cartridge Company and was a prominent Baptist minister, author of The Master. Her great-great-grandfather was Joseph Warren King (1814–1885), founder of the King Mills Powder Company.

Their riches also deprived them of their chance for abortions that they deem as the most important health care right for us average Americans.

It's always been obvious to me that rich celebrities pay a bucket of money to get their goofy entitled kids into good schools. It never occurred to me that it was even illegal.

I guess it's not illegal when politicians do exactly the same thing. Sorta like insider trading.

Chelsea Clinton would have trouble completing the puzzles in Highlights Magazine, but she's a Stanford graduate with a doctorate in Bubble-wrap from Columbia.

I thought silvertailed socialists weren’t into class and status. That was a capitalist thang. This stuff is one more reason to loathe Unholywood and stop buying what they are selling.

Interesting that people are only talking about 2 of the 50 people indicted. I guess no one cares that people other than celebrities are doing it.

the IMG academy in Bradenton, FL is essentially a holding pen for the grade-school age sons and daughters of the rich internationally. The cost is staggering for athletic training, housing, meals, virtual schooling, recreation, etc. Only a few will legitimately earn college scholarships, let alone play pro. The setup is not conducive to individual player development; it’s training for the masses. There are a few players, usually foreign and there on scholarships, who receive directed and individualized training. Everyone there knows who they are.
So, if you are a parent who shelled out big bucks over many years, the last thing you want to hear is that your son or daughter is not getting into a select college because they’re not good enough, perhaps due to lack of talent, or perhaps they didn’t really apply themselves.
Hence, the incentive to cheat is enormous.

I budgeted for my kids to get bachelors degrees and they’re fine. I wouldn’t pay for them to go to an “elite” school so they’d master the art of blaming everybody else for “white privilege”.

Don't dismiss those credentials. A top university is still the best ticket to enter the world of America's progressive Government/ media / financial elites.
