Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has made it her mission to break up tech giants' hold on the Internet. In a rather strange decision, Warren's 2020 president campaign decided to run ads about breaking up Facebook's monopoly on the social media website.
Facebook initially responded by pulling the ads down. According to POLITICO, the social media giant decided to restore the ads to encourage a "robust debate."
We removed the ads because they violated our policies against use of our corporate logo," a Facebook spokesperson said. "In the interest of allowing robust debate, we are restoring the ads.
Warren's ads targeted Facebook, Amazon and Google.
Three companies have vast power over our economy and our democracy. Facebook, Amazon, and Google," read the ads, which Warren's campaign had placed Friday. "We all use them. But in their rise to power, theyve bulldozed competition, used our private information for profit, and tilted the playing field in their favor.
The ads urged voters to go to her website to sign a petition urging them to support our plan to break up these big tech companies.
SIGN THE PETITION TO SUPPORT OUR PLAN TO BREAK UP THE BIGGEST TECH COMPANIES
Americas biggest tech companies are controlling more and more of our digital lives. And theyre using their size and power to make it harder for the next tech entrepreneur with the next big idea to break through and compete with them meaning less options for us.
Add your name if you agree: Its time to break up our biggest tech companies like Amazon, Google, and Facebook.
The three ads that were taken down had the following message posted below them: This ad was taken down because it goes against Facebook's advertising policies.
“It’s a shame Lizzy does’t spend the time and money on trying to downsize our government.”
Yes, Big Business is a clear and present danger to leftists (though they love getting the corporate donations) but Big Government is untouchable. And the bigger and more authoritarian the government, the better.
Bingo! Very well said.
Amen to that.
You mean by taking info you willingly gave them and using it to market, say, similar products or services to you.
WAH-WAH-WAH-WAH-WAH-WAH! WAH-WAH-WAH-WAH!
No.
By using spyware embeded in phone apps to sell pretty much anything on people’s phones.
If conservatives did that the accounts would be permanently banned for it.
From what I understand, Fb took the posting down...LOLOLOL
Lets wrap this baby up, Folks! Less than $2k to go!
What a ditz!
And Poca-Honky is supposed to be a Harvard Professor?
Only because Lizzie used the FB logo
They then put it back up without it
Silly girl....shoulda sent smoke signals...
I kind of agree big IT does need to be broken up. They’re are no viable alternatives and they are forcing leftist policies on everyone. And them they use their power to continue to acquire more. Facebook is possibly one of the worst. They continue to violate or privacy and connect data on people that don’t even sign up. They get their app as part of the default install and the user is stuck with it on their phone. And Facebook then collects their private info.
Not always. Facebook had been caught several times tracking people and they never signed up.
Article says that Facebook initially pulled this down, before realizing that such an action was actually making her point for her.
I think it’s funny... lol
